Morning all: Much ballyhooed snow didn't materialize, we had a sunny day but very cold tonight with temps just below freezing. Spent the first couple of hours today online with Dell Tech Support after a website I clicked on (via Google) delivered a spyware program disguised as an anti-virus program (one of those things that suddenly lights up your desktop with alarming messages about threats to your computer). I ignored it and immediately launched McAffee to scan my computer, which found nothing. However, the spyware program (called Internet Security Essentials) wouldn't go away until Dell's remote support took over and did a super-scan and clean up (LOVE that service! So glad I signed up for it!)

Trish: They said it will take a while for the autopsies on the dolphins. Glad your OH remembered his training and sat still, even if Mia forgot!

Diane: Have never heard of the Nevada Triangle. Will certainly keekp an eye out for the program  - we're watching DVD of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest right now. The UK is (it's rumored) is warmed by the Gulf Stream, which perhaps accounts for the daffodils, etc., while you're still dealing with weather from what I believe is called the Canadian Shield...

AQ: Our plants are in danger of drowning right now; have moved some of the potted plants under the eaves to protect them from any frost.

Lindybird: Had big laugh at image of you scraping your pizza off the floor - I'm a firm believer in keeping our immune systems challenged!! :-))  I shall be tuned in to the Oscars from the silly "red-carpet arrivals" pre-show all the way to the final curtain call, although I must confess to shouting a lot at the telly during the entire show. I think The King's Speech will do OK; Colin Firth was nominated last year for A Single Man but didn't get it; think he stands a good chance this time round (and if he doesn't get it, you'll hear me yelling at the telly all the way to the UK)!!

Margobird: Your sister sounds like a real gem.

OG: So glad you had a chance to make various plans with son.

dibnlib: "My fried egg has landed upside down on the floor?"  Maybe that happens a lot in Russia?  :-))

Hi to all I missed. Have a lovely Sunday!

  • Hello Annette bet your OH was relieved when the carrots were taken off to Miss Molly who obviously enjoyed them. Smiled about your encouter with the ranch owner's wife.  Whenever i go down our dirve because we are at the side of a park I always get talking to people passing, usually the ones with dogs and find out lots of things I never knew about my neighbours.

  • Good morning Brenda H the carnival in Viareggio is a large one which goes over 3 weeks I think.  When we there in the summer a couple of years ago we went to the factory where they make all the floats and statues etc to go on them.  All made by local people over the year.  It provides work for a lot of people which is a good thing.  After I told OH you had been to Rome he immediately said we are going again next year even though he had said we would probably not go abroad next year after having the three holidays this year.  I am looking forward to going to Florence again as there is still much for us to see.  We like to take our time though and work out what we will see without rushing around trying to cram everythng in.  My OH does all the arranging of our holidays usually just after we have come back from one.

  • Good morning Heather B nice to see you again, and how exciting an osprey has been seen in Scotland already.  Not long to go now and everyone will be completely hooked again.  Hope you and your family are keeping well.

  • Margo – when Son was young and had twice daily injections after his cancer op, chemo and radiotherapy, we and he had to learn to administer them, so we all practiced on oranges too.  Didn't really like sticking needles in him, but it just became part of our life, 'though much better when he did it himself..

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good morning original goldfinch reading through the posts it seems as though it is pretty chilly everywhere.

Yes I certainly do know the expression "bun fight" one my Mum used to use quite often when she had 3 daughters who were not excactly behaving themselves.  Used to tell the neighbours there was a bit of a fun fight going on.

Latest news re Billy for all, he is getting ever braver.  He was in the drive last night when OH came home from work and didn't even move as the car went past him.  He has been keeping me amused over the last couple of days.  When the sun is out I always see more of him, yesterday morning he was rolling around in the drive for a good length of time just enjoying the sun.  He still has a fixation about our pond and will sneak in uncer the cover of darkness when he thinks we can't see him.  AS he has a white bib down his front he is quite obvious even when it is dark.  Will have one or two tries with the pond but then gives up, probably gets fed up with being watched.

My poor sister has a rather bad dose of bronchitis, she is so poorly I am just pleased she went to the doctor again before it got any worse.  This  is not my sister with the cancer but the one who lives near me.

  • original goldfinch that must have been awful for you but as you say it became part of life for you.

  • Hello to you ALL. The sun is trying to shine but the wind is so cold. Slept in this morning. I love going on holiday but it is always lovely to return to our own bed. Just arranged to meet daughter & boyfriend, and son & wife for lunch on Sunday. We will meet half way between ourselves and them in London, so it is a shorter drive ( about an hour ) for us all, although it can take them much longer to battle their way on the M25 and then the London traffic.

Diane, Pleased to hear that your hand is healing and is less painful. My son and his wife have one of those first aid kits,  which also includes sterile needles for any injections they may require and there was any uncertainty about hygiene. The kit also included temporary tooth fillings.

OG, I had a laugh at your reply to Annette about the ranch lady. I have visions of her grabbing any visitors, just to be able to talk to a human being. I have heard of a bun fight. One definition meaning an occasion for formal dressing and the other for a squabble.

Alan, We know that really, you just love shopping. Just imagining you standing on the back of the trolley whizzing up and down the aisles.

Terry, Hope your OH finds that his mother is now recovering and that he is able to enjoy his time with her.

Margo, Thanks for all the information on Viarregio. I thought it was a weekend carnival before Lent began. Shrove Tuesday,  is next Tuesday, 8th March, so does that mean that you are there for the end of the carnival ? I did see one in Mijas, Spain a few years ago at this time of the year. Sorry your sister is feeling so bad. She must have been struggling when out shopping with Rhys and yourself.

I had better think about lunch, although I don't feel very enthusiastic about preparing anything !

  • Brenda H  just looked at the dates for the carnival and the actual parading dates are March 6th, 8th, 13th 2011, althoughI believe there is something going on from 19 February..  So looking foward to it as it will be interesting to be in Viareggio at the end of their winter when we usually go in the summer.  We will see Mrch 13 proecession.and then have a couple of days to visit maybe Florence which is only an hour away on a train or Lucca which is even closer and a place we are both very fond off.

Know what you mean about your own bed, nothing ever seems quite the samel.  I can understand how you have no enthusiam for preparing lunch.  Always a shock to come home and fend for yourselft again.

ALICAT thanks for the news about new blog.
