After Tiger started the thread for tracking Rothes and Mallachie I thought that we could do with a thread for the tracking of ospreys fitted with transmitters by Roy Dennis. As the "summer" marches on it won't be long before the only way we can get our osprey fix is to follow their migrations.
This year we have the opportunity of following all three tagged birds from last year: Nimrod, Beatrice and Morven. It will be fascinating to find out if they will winter in exactly the same place as last year, and also whether they take the same route.
Added to that Roy has tagged two more adult males this year, Red/white 8T (an Abernethy bird) and Morven's other half (Logie's ex fella). I'm not certain whether Roy has any further transmitters or will attempt to catch any more adult males but, including Rothes and Mallachie, we will be able to follow at least 7 ospreys on their incredible journeys this autumn.
Morning Alan I hope he is OK as they have bad weather in France at the moment. Perhaps the South of France is a bit warmer. Hope you are keeping well and if you take Hamish out do be careful as I think It is slippery just about everywhere today.

Re: the continuing reports of osprey sightings on Faune-Aquitaine. Have you seen the "Balbuzard Info" newsletters which are posted as .pdf files on the "Actualites" page of the LPO's mini-site on ospreys - I mean this: http://balbuzard.lpo.fr/actualites/actualites.html
The latest one, no 19, has a feature on efforts in the Landes department (40) to attract ospreys on migration and hopefully to breed. http://balbuzard.lpo.fr/actualites/balbuzard-info_19.pdf Paul Lesclaux is mentioned here - he appears to be a nature reserve manager or similar.
I've got a lot more (hopefully interesting) material about osprey recolonisation and translocation projects - was wondering if this topic deserves a thread of its own?

Alan - forgive me if you already know how to do this, but if not, it may be of enormous help to you, or anyone who wants a quick translation. Have you heard of 'Babelfish'? You simply highlight the foreign text, right click the text and copy, google babelfish, go to the 'babelfish translation site' and right click the text and paste it into the given box, select which translation you want, i.e. french into english and bob's your uncle. It's great if you want to sent a message in a foreign language too. Soooo easy.
Very sorry if I'm teaching my grandmother to suck eggs :) but it may help someone.

lyndab, There's a quicker translation tool than that - if you download Google Toolbar, it has a translation facility which generally detects web pages in a foreign language, and will translate them when you click a button, or even automatically. I can't see a way of making it work for .pdf files like "Balbuzard Info" though - then you have to use either Babelfish or the equivalent Google facility - click on "Language Tools" from the Google home page.
I have wondered sometimes if we could also do with a "Toolbox" thread on this forum, specifically for posting hints about using translation tools, GE, and useful websites.
I'll aim to start the "recolonisation & translocation" thread when I'm back next week - but if anyone has any relevant material and wants to start it in the meantime, feel free to go ahead.

Thanks Lyndab , I have been using the Google translator as mentioned by Sue C and I have just translated the pdf file using that as it seems the best way to do it. Thank you very much anyway your help is much appreciated.
