Tracking Other UK Ospreys

I shall post this on 'Tracking other ospreys' when the gremlins have been banished. It is new to me, which just shows......seek and ye shall find........ The news 'actualities' mentions Roy and Beatrice.....and on the home page, Tom a new balbuzard, who has been hanging out...somewhere, I cannot tell.....seems to start a satellite tagged journey south of Paris, down through France to the Spanish border, looking as if he is about to traverse the Pyrenees.....then the map runs out on the 27th August? (They said at the beginning of the plotted journey that they were having signal to satellite problems.)

If Xalbai or gde read this, can you please, supply some more information, assuming that you know about this site. It says it is an experiment with the Argos system, in Toulouse, which is the same one as 'our' birds use.

The "tracking other ospreys" thread may be OK now - I posted something which started a new page and it's displaying normally again - fingers crossed!

I saw that site too - there's a link to the history of "Tom" in the LH column. The tracking project was back in 2006-2007, though it's interesting that he spent his first winter in Portugal, on the lower reaches of the Tagus above Lisbon. No info on the site that I could find, about his movements after early 2007.   

Sue C, thanks, 2006, on closer inspection some posts are dated thus, I agree.  The name 'Tom' seemed to me to be vaguely familiar. Later on I shall read the website, when time permits, I may come back with some queries about Tom. Also there are comments in August about the responsibility/ management/operation of the site.

Talisman is now in the Extramadura region of Spain near the Gabriel Y Galan reservoir. This is not  too far away from Mallachie over the border in Portugal.

Roy Dennis has now updated his site. Positions of all 6, in order of "southernness" :

Red 8T - In the marshes NW of Ziguinchor in southern Senegal. He wasn't tagged last year, but Roy thinks this may be his wintering spot.

Morven - now arrived at the area on Mauritanian coast where she wintered last year.

Beatrice - has been at last year's wintering site on River Guadiaro, Spain since 4 Sep, so it looks like she's staying. 

Talisman - from the map, now in southern Portugal heading for the Algarve.

Rothiemurcus - still wandering the rivers E of Arouca, central Portugal

Nimrod - has been having a stopover for the last week in Charente-Maritime, France, fishing around Ile d'Oleron - where he also stopped last autumn. Last year he wintered in Guinea Bissau.

Thanks Alan great photographs.  We are so lucky this year with news and photos of other ospreys.   Will never look at too many ospreys, just love them and it keeps me going since the empty nest season began.  From other sites I look at it seems as though it has been a good year and lets hope that many of them will readch their destinations safely.  Have a good day.

Thanks for the link Alan another to add to my collection, the more the merrier.  Osprey just fascinate me so much.

I think that must be one of the best pictures I have seen.  We will be driving up the A1 tomorrow -past Doncaster so I do hope himself will make a detour just in case     lol
