After Tiger started the thread for tracking Rothes and Mallachie I thought that we could do with a thread for the tracking of ospreys fitted with transmitters by Roy Dennis. As the "summer" marches on it won't be long before the only way we can get our osprey fix is to follow their migrations.
This year we have the opportunity of following all three tagged birds from last year: Nimrod, Beatrice and Morven. It will be fascinating to find out if they will winter in exactly the same place as last year, and also whether they take the same route.
Added to that Roy has tagged two more adult males this year, Red/white 8T (an Abernethy bird) and Morven's other half (Logie's ex fella). I'm not certain whether Roy has any further transmitters or will attempt to catch any more adult males but, including Rothes and Mallachie, we will be able to follow at least 7 ospreys on their incredible journeys this autumn.

We learned today that 7GH was ringed in 2007 in Germany. Scotland is great because you have nesting ospreys, but Aquitaine is not too bad as well since we have all ospreys from W-Europe over our heads at one time or another!
Thanks for that information Apumel(Olivier). I thought it was not a British bird. Any ideas on 4RP?. The osprey that was found dead.
Morven makes it to Africa. She is near Tamara, NW Morocco today.
This is great news Sandy after the very hard start she had to her journey. Roy must be relieved as well.

Thanks Sandy. Great news
Thanks Sandy. I will have to put in another placemark for Morven. All is going well so far.
Great to hear that Morven is pressing on. Just that awful expanse of desert to cross now.
I'm still worried about Rothiemurchus. I just wonder if he is able to fish in those mountain rivers - they look like they might be rather fast flowing to me - I was under the impression that ospreys prefer still waters where they can spot their prey. I was also thinking that after his traumatic crossing to Portugal, he might be so shaken and exhausted, he just doesn't want to explore the area to find somewhere that might be easier to fish (like one of Mallachie's reservoirs!). That's just me thinking aloud and I hope I'm wrong. Roy hasn't updated Rothie's page yet so anything could have happened in the last couple of days.
Thank you to Gary for the information regarding "latest post". I have spent ages trawling through messages to get to the end, to find the latest news. So easy now!! Thank you. Also thank you to you all for the information and photos, which you send in so regularly. I have learnt so much about Ospreys in the past couple of months. I think they are just brilliant, I am looking forward to watching their (hopefully) safe progress.

4RP was German as well: ringed in July 2009 inn NE Germany.
No problems Sylviamac:)
Morven flew non stop for another 36 hours, (over 600 miles) including nightime, over water flighthttp://www.roydennis.org/osprey/index.asp?id=174&sid=116
