Morning all: Here's to a good week for everyone. Check out latest pages of last week's thread to see great pix by OG of a kestrel on a road sign and a signpost for migrating birds and Gary's photos of the lovable Toffee plus his Toffee-proof technology. Just had dinner and managed to turn perfectly lovely piece of halibut into shoe leather!  Hate it when that happens, but was busy watching weather forecast.  Desk is looking cleaner - can actually see the surface now.  Take care all!

  • Good evening dibnlib the story about Donnie made me laugh and certainly no offence taken.  I am so glad that you are back and hopefully you will be fully recovered soon.

  • Lynette  lovely captures of Lily, she is such gentle bear and what a wonderful face she has.  I think there has been some action in the den earlier but I missed it, hopefully it might have been caught on a video.  At the moment sounds like one cub is suckling.  Looking forward to finding out what the names will be.  Think it will be Tuesday when we find out.

  • Very funny Diane.  Hope you are not going to get more snow as I see Gary is expecting more.

  • original goldfinch  you must have been worried about not being unable to contact your son but good that he had slept well.

The videos of Hope playing with the cubs are so lovely.  How gentle and patient she is with them as you say it could all have been so different.

Nice photographs of the swan, lapwing and dunnock.  Always such a treat to see your photos.

    Have a safe journey tomorrow.

  • OG: I'm sorry that your son's progress has been a bumpy road. Unfortunately, that's often the case with physical and emotional healing. I'm sending you and him good energy!!! I know it will be a relief for you to see him this weekend. So glad you have that opportunity!

I loved the photos you have posted today, especially the owl-like blue tit! I hope you have a wonderful, safe trip and enjoy the time with your family.

I'll be back later to "talk" to everyone else. I must do some very serious and much needed housework. I just wanted to wish OG a good journey. Hope I haven't missed you, OG!

By the way, all, the Fort Wayne story (the link I posted earlier) is true. It's not a joke. But it's now been reported all over the country and on national  TV.

  • One last look-in before supper and bed!  Did someone mention addiction to this site?!

Margo and Diane – thanks for good wishes for tomorrow – only about 100miles each way, but not always comfortable sitting that long, even with short breaks.  But it will be nice to see them again.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • SheilaFE : It was a quick edit so you can have another glass of wine.

    Night all.

  • Hi, all. Hope everyone is well. This afternoon, I was pleased to see a female goldfinch outside my kitchen window. She was making a happy "per-chick-er-ee" call and wildly flittering from branch to branch. They don't nest until late in the season, so I'm not sure what she was so busy doing, but it was a lovely sound.

Thanks to all who inquired, but I probably won't get the snow storm that Gary and Barbara Jean in Wisconsin are due to receive. It's been unseasonably warm here the last few days. I think our temps are expected to go up and down wildly for the next week, but the weather folk predict that I will probably get a lot of rain with perhaps just a dusting of snow.

Gary: Be sure to take TT out in the snow for an extended romp! LOL Hope your wife is recovering.Wonderful photos you've posted! I loved the puppy barricade. I was pet-sitting for my friend one time, and her newly adopted rescue puppy chewed up the entire right corner of their coffee table while I took a shower. She particularly liked to chew CD cases.

WendyB: So sorry that you had car trouble. I absolutely hate having to spend money on car maintenance. Must have been frustrating for you, especially if your car is fairly new.

Lynette and Alan: Thanks for the great webcam captures. Lynette, good luck with tracing your ancestry. It's a fascinating hobby and addicting.

Margo: Sorry you've had trouble sleeping. It sounds like you're making real progress with Billy Whizz. I still predict that he'll be sleeping on your bed by summer.

AQ: I was so very happy to see the photos of Lizarda daVinci. She is looking quite healthy -- probably because of her diet of home-grown tomatoes! :-) Have they turned her blue tongue red?? LOL I love that skink! Thanks for posting.

dibnlib: Welcome back. Hope you're feeling much better. I make Apple Waldorf salad a lot. Sorry to you and to Terry for the birthday mix-up. I meant well. :-)

Annette: Welcome back to you, too. I hope you've gotten some good rest. That was a long, tiring trip. I assume that you've now found your keys, with AQ's wise guidance. :-) I hope that your granddaughter is in good health and that everything is going well in Arizona. I imagine that you were happy that they've moved into a nicer place. I wish them all the best. Glad to hear that you've gotten the whooping cough booster, especially since you'll be around the baby. Hope you can rest for a few days.

  • Oh, I meant to say hi to Lindy (hope you're getting your strength back!!!) and to Brenda and Patricia and everyone I missed.

Here's a photo of the male American goldfinch. I thought the colors might cheer everyone up and make us think of spring.

  • Evening all: Well, have not found the keys yet although I did spend 1-1/2 hours with OH in the garage after the door came off its tracks!  I'd been out grocery shopping; had just unloaded the car and hit the button to let the door down as I came into the house. Went out a minute later; door was still up; hit the button again and heard loud clanging and banging and turned to see the door hanging off the track on one side. We couldn't move it up or down in spite of multiple efforts. Thank heaven the big and strong young teen who lives across the road and his friend were at home and helped us get it down finally. Tomorrow we call the repair guy.   Had a very beige dinner tonight due to the fact that I pulled the wrong package out of the freezer and didn't realize it until I was ready to start cooking; had to improvise and do without fresh jalapenos and cilantro. Didn't taste bad; just looked a bit anemic. All in all, a day of surprises!

OG: Glad son turned up okay; have a good trip.

Diane: Will be interesting to see which name wins out!

We've been watching Any Human Heart on telly; love William Boyd's books; thought the acting in this was really good.   Anyway, take care all and thanks all for pix and links.
