Morning all: Here's to a good week for everyone. Check out latest pages of last week's thread to see great pix by OG of a kestrel on a road sign and a signpost for migrating birds and Gary's photos of the lovable Toffee plus his Toffee-proof technology. Just had dinner and managed to turn perfectly lovely piece of halibut into shoe leather!  Hate it when that happens, but was busy watching weather forecast.  Desk is looking cleaner - can actually see the surface now.  Take care all!

  • -- You came on whilst I was rabbitting, dibnlib - hope your OH's relatives are all OK.

  • Good morning Alan  it is terrible watching the news from New Zealand this morning.  As you say the death toll will be higher as many people are trapped in buildings and how distressing that they can be heard screming for help.  It makes me realise that however my problems I have at the moment, there are people show who are suffering more.  Absolute devasation and once again nature has come up with the worst that it can offer.  My thoughts are very much with them.

Thanks for the osp calendar and link to Blackwater.  They are hoping the 3rd egg will hatch soon so third eaglet not too far behind the other twol.

  • Morning all First chance to read and reply for a few days. News from New Zealand is awful.  It was the first item on our local morning news bulletin.  The scale of the devastation makes it seem likely that the death toll will rise.  The thought of being trapped or buried alive is quite horrific and I saw something on one news report of people trapped on the 12th floor of a building because a staircase has collapsed.  There are reports of people on one side of the city unable to reach or get news of family on the other side.  That must be such a worry, especially where children may be involved.

Haven't had an opportunity to read or contribute the last few days.  saturday we had 2 heats of our dog agility winte league, trying to catch up as 2 earlier heats had to be postponed because of the weather.  Ground held up fairly well and the sun shone on us until lated afternoon, when thick mist rolled in.  Tweed had mixed fortunes - 2 eliminations (one my fault) and 2 rosettes.  Indy didn't compete at all.

Gary Miss Toffee is gorgeous.  She looks less like a puppy in every picture and her colour is really lovely, not too light or 2 gingery.  The 'barricades' seem only too familiar!  We've had BC pups which ate the corners of walls, vinyl flooring and carpet.  Oh well, we choose to have dogs and they are so rewarding.

Diane What a great YouTube clip!  Do hope the name of the building will, indeed, be Harry Baals.  Lovely goldfinch.

Lindybird Love the sewage tankers! A sense of humour must be essential to that job.

Margobird Hard to believe Rhys is walking.  Hope his Mum will soon be well again - I'm sure it takes a lot of energy to keep up with him.  Re shopping while you are at  LG, Trish2 has given you a good list of the available 'emporia'!  There's also a Co-op in Grantown (about 8 miles).  We've been holidaying in Nethy Bridge for years and use all those shops.  I tried to leave a message on your page last week to say we'd booked our cottage in Nethy for the week you'll be in LG - ould help with shopping if you were stuck.

Trish2 (and Margo) The mobile chippy was certainly still operating when we were in Nethy last October.  He seems to visit all year round and I can support Trish's report on quality!  We make a point of getting our evening meal from him at least once in a week!

Wendyb Hope your OH is now feeling much better.  Undiagnosed symptoms are always a worry..  Sorry he had to have a hospital visit and I hope your own doc. will be able to treat and reassure him.

Alan - you are a saint (or at least a candidate for sainthood) for changing duvet covers.  I agree it should be an Olympic sport but I certainly wouldn't be winning a gold medal!

  • Alan  forgot to say, I have an all out war when I am trying to change duvet cover on my own.  Sorry to say a fair bit of bad language.  Most of the time OH helps me as he can't stand the shouting.

  • dibnlib I do hope your OH's family in Christchurch are safe.  It's a terrible disaster.

  • Good morning  auntie  and your night temperatures are very low.  You seem to be so buy all the time no wonder you are knackered.  Hope you have a day off soon to recuperate and I wish you warmer temperatures soon and first signs of Spring appearing.

  • A couple of screenshots from the Appio & Vergine cam in Rome. This is a mighty healthy looking peregrine:

  • Annete  OH had a good trip to Glasgow and as you saw arrived home safely.  Had a quck chat before we went to bed and today he is back at work.  I thought he would feel tired but says he is OK.  I wish I had one half of his energy.

  • Good morning Lynette lovely capture of Phoebe sitting on her egg.  How quickly she has got down to the business of motherhood again.  Lovely captures from Lily's den and there is a video of the activity in the den on their latest update.  Like the names for the cubs, Faith and Jason.  If you watch that video you will see how much the cubs have grown already and also how Hope helps Lily to tend to them.  Very heartwarming to watch.

  • Good morning dibnlib and such awful news from New Zealand.  Hope your OH's cousin and family are OK and perhaps you will be able to contact them at some point.

I am so looking forward to LG visit as the scenery is one of the things I want to see.  Although I stayed in Edinburgh did go for quite a few coach trips and travelled a bit further up so did get to see some scenery.
