Morning all: Here's to a good week for everyone. Check out latest pages of last week's thread to see great pix by OG of a kestrel on a road sign and a signpost for migrating birds and Gary's photos of the lovable Toffee plus his Toffee-proof technology. Just had dinner and managed to turn perfectly lovely piece of halibut into shoe leather!  Hate it when that happens, but was busy watching weather forecast.  Desk is looking cleaner - can actually see the surface now.  Take care all!

  • Just had a read through after an excellent dinner out - will post some replies tomorrow when OH takes Son to the station.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Evening all: Re dolphins, a whole lot of baby bottlenose dolphins are showing up dead along the Gulf Coast. They were apparently conceived right before BP's oil spill; folks are doing autopsies to determine the cause(s) of death. Stay tuned.

Lynette: No weeds allowed for a year or so in our "new" garden (not after spending all that money!!) :-) Will have to see where Tembe park is - elephants and penguins??

Sheila: Had no idea Mary Anning inspired "She Sells Sea Shells....." but book does talk about her being struck by lightning. Every January we come up with book suggestions for the year and four of us suggested Remarkable Creatures. I loved it.

Busy day here; got everything done by 3 p.m. when I came home and put my feet up. Don't look now, but we've got a Canadian storm bearing down on us and they're forecasting snow - yes snow!! - at 500ft elevations tomorrow. It's been raining all afternoon and the cold front should be here any minute. Miss Molly (at 600ft elevation) has been tucked up in the barn for the next day or so. Daughter called from AZ and says it's really really cold since I left; they're at 5,000ft. Brrrr!

  • Just woke from post-lunch snooze. Hard to sleep last night. No wonder, overnight min was 23C at 7 am. Another 35 day and humid with it. <sigh> Tomato bushes are looking rather dry, silver beet trying to go to seed. Yet some autumn bulbs, confused by recent rain, have emerged. If I’m not careful, they will scorch.

Linda - My "smiles" are not original. I have a few email friends who send jokes, Some I delete as not my taste (the jokes, not the friends LOL), others are quite funny. OH grumbles and considers them spam.

  • Morning, Everyone.   Very dark, wet and raining here.  Have the lights on in the house even though its morning.

OG:   Good to hear that you enjoyed an excellent meal out.  Hope visit with Son has been enjoyable.

AQ:   I am the same, lots of the pics I put on for the Monday Smiles are via some emails I receive - lots I delete! and some I send on to others.

Had my haircut last night, with the hairdressers kitten playing with my toes at the same time!  Came home to throw a quick pizza in the oven, and then managed to drop it on the floor face down, when it was time to serve & divide it between us!  Discussed it with OH whilst scraping it off the tiles - then we ate it, with just a couple of the pieces of meat (ham) thrown into the Dogs bowl - we decided we would not die if we ate it without thinking about where it had been!  (actually right in the corner where Dogs feeding bowls are, so bound to have the dirt from the garden and his feet on it!).

Off on shopping mission soon, rain or not.  Ugh.

  • Just looked over the last few pages....

margo - thanks for good wishes for holiday - we are off to the Canaries, as we usually go for a break from the winter, at this time of year.  (we have already booked for next year, at the same time!  :-))  )

OG:  I am still coughing, but OH is a lot better, now.  We are resigned to being like this until we get a bit of sun and hope that that will knock it on the head, finally.  I've never had anything like this, and hope never to again.  :-(

Sheila:  Very interesting to hear about Mary Anning.

We have the Oscars to look forward to this weekend, although of course it is The Middle of the Night for us, and we don't hear the results until next day unless we stay up all night!  Have a feeling that they will pass over The Kings Speech and go for something else, just because of all the fuss that's been made of it.

  • Morning all,

Thanks for all the chat and pics.

After 2 reasonable days the rain and cloud is back. It rained overnight then we had a brief dry spell and now it is raining heavily again. Temp is 8.6c. Not sure what is planned for today. Not a lot you can do in the rain apart from the dreaded shopping.

12 days to go until Crufts for all of us who enjoy the dog show.

The eagles are having a tough time in British Columbia. Here is a radio interview with David Hancock whick explains all:

  • Good morning Alan  we had heavy rain during the night and more showers this morning.  Really want to get in the garden to sort things out a bit but all the while it is like this won't be able tol.

Thanks for the news of another peregrine egg at San Jose, it was a busy egg laying day yesterday.

Listened to David Hancock interview and quite sad news really.

Although I do not have a dog will be watching Crufts, always enjoy it and every year OH says to me why don't we get a dog to keep you company during the day.  I would love a dog but would not want to put it in kennels when we are on holiday.

  • Good morning Lindybird and I am sure the sun will help you and your OH.  My sister who lives near me has been poorly all week with what sounds like the same thing.  She lost her voice completely for 2 days but it is the coughing that is getting her down, not had a good night's sleep all this week.  She did go to the doctor as she suffers badly with her chest and has had antibiotics prescribed at the beginning of the week but says she is going back to him on Monday if she is no better.

I did smile (sorrry) about the pizza accident but I expect the dog enjoyed his bit and I am sure we have all probably eaten something that has dropped on the floor.  My OH does it as he says he doesn't like waste and he is OK.

Hope you don't get too wet shopping and have a good weekend.

  • Hello Annette can't believe you are going to get snow, hope it is not too much and pleased that Miss Molly is tucked in the barn.

Such sad news about the baby bottlenose dolphins, man once again has done its worst by the sound of things.

    Keep warm and safe.

  • Good morning Lynette lovely clear captures of the elephants, penguins and Decorah cam.  She is hunkered right down in the nest.  Was watching yesterday and it was so windy there it nearly blew her off the nest..  Can you give me the link to the pengions please.
