Tracking Rothes and Mallachie

I am not sure if we should have separate threads for Rothes and Mallachie. If people feel we should the best start them right away.

The first data has been published on Google Earth and immediately it is amazing how much further Rothes has flown that Mallachie.

  • Has anyone tried tracking some of these (mostly wildflowl i think).

    Then click on a country

    Then click on Migration maps

    click accept

and then click on the Globes.

I can't get it to work.

I have tried adding these link to GoogleEarth directly, e.g.

    ftp://ftpext.usgs.gov/pub/wr/ca/dixson/daily_kazducks08.kmz

    tp://ftpext.usgs.gov/pub/wr/ca/dixson/daily_garganey07.kmz

    ftp://ftpext.usgs.gov/pub/wr/ca/dixson/daily_egypt09fa.kmz

    but it doesn't work.

I have tried using Internet Explorer rather than Mozilla Firefox and tried adding exeptions to Windows Firewall and fiddling here and there but no luck. I don't understand ftp so that doesn't help/

    Any ideas????

Alan: Re your 'unticking the route'......does this help.........see above....I unticked the selection... then all the points disappear and the route does as well....then tick the date only that you wish to display as above to see the point where she was on that day. Simples! But maybe I am committing a gaffe, as I have not been paying attention too much of late, as other things are paramount.

  • JSB : Thanks for that. I did manage to figure that out after messing about for a bit. I had so many placemarks on my map that it was confusing the issue. I have deleted them now that all the fixes are plotted and as you say it is much more straightforward.

  • Answering my own question:

Today it works fine so the site must have been down or busy

t have been that the site was down or too busy.

    Great!!

  • Prasad I think the reason you didn't get a response, is that this thread is called "Tracking Rothes and Mallachie". It's intended to be solely about following ospreys from Loch Garten, so your post was off-topic.

As the LG forum has developed to become "Osprey Central", we have a separate thread for talking about other satellite tracked ospreys, but if you want to start an ongoing dialogue about projects tracking other species of birds, the General Forum would be the place for it. Cheers, Sue

  • Rothes' latest positions - the input error for 2nd Feb has been corrected. No sign of any change in her habits then. I'm assuming that the village which Robson Green was shown visiting, is marked by the clearing in the middle of the island; Rothes never seems to linger there. The fishing camp is on the islet off the SE corner.

I suggest we continue with this thread, whether or not Rothes decides to make a move north this spring. It makes sense, in that the Tracking Page currently has the same title. If there are chicks at LG this year and they get tagged, we can review its future later in the summer.

  • Rothes' moves for last week - not restless yet then:

  • Latest fixes for Rothes. Looks like she took a longer trip out to sea fishing on 25th.

  • Rothes latest 2 fixes. No sign of movement yet.
