Morning all:  Long day at the rose garden - poor Robert who supervises the volunteers has been fighting off a bug and a couple of us stayed on longer than usual to help him clean up stuff.  I'm sure I'll be stiff tomorrow. Not as many folks showed up as last year and some of the beds were pruned by city employees which means we'll have to go over those beds again since they did a fairly perfunctory job.

Watching Mad Men (Netflix rental video of first season).  Great viewing when you're too tired to think. Take care all and have a nice Sunday.

  • OG - Some do wear lederhosen to the Schutzenfest. I noticed (on TV) that some girls were wearing drindls so short that one could call them pelmets!

Sheila - Aussieland is crazy about sport, mostly football (Aussie Rules). Cricket & soccer have their followers. And yes some follow the tennis. Unfortunately our media have a limited viewpoint and one could be forgiven for thinking only Aussies were competing! England has the "Barmy Army", we have "The Fanatics", a loud bunch who dress in yellow & green and mainly follow Lleyton Hewitt. I watched (on TV) a first round match last night between 2 girls new to me. Tonight I’ll only watch the girls again as Hewitt is on and I can’t stand his antics. I also hate the grunting and screaming that seems now to be a must.

At the weekend we had Neil Oliver’s "Coast" to watch - to Shetlands & Orkneys. I was getting unbearable in the Orkneys muttering "I’ve been there". LOL. It was nice to see Skara Brae without the pouring rain and strong winds of my visit.

I threw out what seemed to be huge piles of unwanted stuff on Sunday. Now I stand back and wonder if it was only a thimbleful. <sigh> How does one turn off the hoarding gene?

  • Tour DownUnder is heading to Barossa Valley today. I don't suppose the riders will notice the many wineries.

  • This was Lily just a minute ago, having a stretch

  • Hi, folks. I've returned from Indianapolis. I'll be back later to catch up with everyone. Lindy, I hope you are doing better now. Sorry you had a rotten day. Hope everything's okay.

I came on here to post a link to a bird article. The second to last paragraph has an interesting comment about the strategies of birds who build their nests directly into active osprey nests. (The author also mentions that kingbirds build their nests into active golden eagle nests. Kingbirds are the wildly aggressive little birds who took over my garage last spring and wouldn't let me enter -- the ones with the alarm call that sounds like an electric fence or a downed power line!)   http://magblog.audubon.org/book-review-nesting-season

  • Evening all: Phew!  Very unseasonably warm today - cooling down now.  Most of front garden plants are in - a bit hectic with lots of to-ing and fro-ing. I snuck out and bought myself a new computer chair (and for $8, they're assembling it!)  Hurray. Will pick it up tomorrow. It's got a nice comfy seat and a comfy mesh back (will be much cooler in summer than other stuff).  Off to book club tonight. Thank heavens it's within a 10 minute walk but I'm so tired I'm driving - hope I can stay awake long enough for the yummy snacks that follow chat about the book (which is often squeezed in between chat about book group members and  their families).

Diane!  Welcome back. Hope you had a lovely time. Will check out link later.

  • Lindy – just for you.  It’s a brand new day – I hope you can put yesterday behind you and start over!

White with frost and mist here – only minus 3 but a shock after plus 9!

    Back later.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • WENDY  Glad you got to DW. Rarely see a general hand in the changing area now and have you noticed the showers aren't as hot nowadays? Good idea will complete form when swimming this am.

  • Morning, All!    Misty & damp over the fields this morning, and OH has gone out into the gloom.  I've promised  myself that I will tackle all those jobs that  'need doing sometime when there's time for it'  which has to include getting rid of some of the piles (!) of paper around the place. (is there really a hoarding gene AQ??) Thanks for all your commiserations on my ghastly day yesterday, nothing really in the grand scheme of things, but my finger which I burnt is not too sore, and the bruise on my arm is not as bad as I thought!  Later I shall switch on the printer (its an HP, Annette)  and see if it's going to work, if not it will be down to the local IT centre as I have used ink which I'm not supposed to, so it will not be under guarantee.....

Diane:  Nice to see you back, and hope to hear about your travels later.

Our garden is very very wet now, and I expect that some of the bulbs will be rotting away, as we've had more rain in the night and the garden was already very wet.  Roll on summer!  I put out the laundry on the line for the first time in weeks yesterday, and it just hung there limply even though there was a bit of sunshine. Now said laundry is draped around the house.

That sounds depressing, but I got up today saying to myself  "well, at least today has to be a lot better!"  So am going to turn up the music on the radio, and metaphorically roll up my sleves.  See you later!

  • Goodmorning: And it is as it it is sunny but frosty and quite slippy as I have just been out to feed pheasants and birds and had to take care.

New "wildlife" to watch as my friendly farmer as put sheep into the field behind us. He is a beef farmer but as his cattle come in in the winter he looks after another farmers sheep. They are called hogs which did confuse me when I moved here. Now know they are hoggetts...sheep of a certain age but still not sure what.

Dibnlib: Thanks for that it will help as there are lots of mutterings in the changing rooms. I also don't remember the shower tiles being that strange colour before.

Well off to do something domestic and then a nice walk down by the Spey which is really high and fast as the snow on the Cairngorms is melting.

  • Here is a picture to cheer us up!
