Weekly Chat, Sunday, January 16, 2011

Morning all:  Long day at the rose garden - poor Robert who supervises the volunteers has been fighting off a bug and a couple of us stayed on longer than usual to help him clean up stuff.  I'm sure I'll be stiff tomorrow. Not as many folks showed up as last year and some of the beds were pruned by city employees which means we'll have to go over those beds again since they did a fairly perfunctory job.

Watching Mad Men (Netflix rental video of first season).  Great viewing when you're too tired to think. Take care all and have a nice Sunday.

  • Afternoon all ... its been a lovely day here, although colder than the previous few days. We were lucky enough to avoid the heavy rain that most people seem to have had. Not a lot to report from here ... although I did spend a few very pleasant minutes watching a flock of redwings in the trees and on the Green at the front of the house. They seem to have taken up residence around here, as I see them every day ... this time they were entertaining me by pulling worms out of the ground!!

Haven't posted for a few days, so too much to reply individually, except that I was pleased Linda got her cuddle from Tomasz...  and that margobird enjoyed the birthday party (a drum??? ... I bet you were popular with his parents!!)

Thanks to Alan, OG dibnlib and Kelloggs for lovely pics of Phoebe, white-tailed eagle, goldfinches, kestrel, siskin, penguins and eagle eggs!    (You see ... I have been reading and making notes!!!)

Thanks to everyone for chat ... most enjoyable.

    Take care.

  • LINDY  glad you managed to visit Tomasz.

OG  as usual you have given us wonderful pics.  Jo thinks that Sat they will be using sleds and Sunday rigs as the forecast is for overnight rain

  • My day has gone from bad to worse!  but I won't bore you with the details!

Came on here to be cheered up - nice to see the lovely Phoebe, thanks Alan.

Have just noticed that we now have 390 Members on the Osprey Group - don't know who is the newest, or if its Valmc who came on yesterday???  Welcome, anyway, whoever you are!!

  • Hello Everyone : Have been reading but not blogging, enjoyed the chat, the photos and the Monday smiles.

After all the snow and ice we had a stonking day yesterday. Took O.H. for his annual shopping trip to Aberdeen and it was wall to wall sun and reached the dizzy heights of 12 degrees. Finished off with a walk along the prom on the east beach. Along with the rest of Aberdeen as everyone was enjoying the freedom. On the way home we saw plenty of buzzards who were enjoying the same warm freedom.

Chillier today but the River Spey is really really high and running very fast. Keep your fingers crossed for the people around the Spey Bay area if there happens to be a high tide.

Dibnlib: Managed a trip to the gym today for a walk and a spin class with Laura and then a swim. Everyone was so pleased her back doing classes regularly. Lots of mutterings about the lack of cleanliness and lack of cleaners who do anything. So if you feel the same please fill in one of their feedback forms.

How is this for delivery failiure..we had a Christmas card delivered today. It has come all the way from Cromarty on The Black Isle. A distance of 70 miles or less as the crow flies. A thought maybe the crow could have delivered it faster.

  • Morning all: Taking a break from sorting out "new" office layout - still have to get OH to take some huge unfiled piles of paper somewhere - anywhere!  But better be careful what I say or they'll end up in a box in the garage labeled "To Go Through."   Most of the plants in the frontyard are going in today; all seems to be going according to plan....  See that Colin Firth won Best Actor at the Golden Globes - and made a nice unassuming speech. Must say Ricky Gervais's "jokes" were more on the nasty than funny side.  Didn't watch the hole thing - all way too gushy for me.  Do like it that the Brits (Mirren, Irons, Firth) are so understated and classy compared to some others.

Lindybird: Sorry day has gone pear-shaped (love that expression). But glad you saw Tomasz and had a good visit. What kind of fancy printer do you have?  I have an HP; used to buy just HP brand, but now Costco is filling old ink cartridges and it seems to be quite happy with them.  Loved the Monday smiles - read them to OH and we had a laugh.

OG: Marvellously clear shot of finches.

Margobird:  Nice that you enjoyed Rhys - once kiddies go into nursery school/first grade, they catch every bug out there and - lucky us - bring them home. Perfect little germ factories!  My sister and BiL used to go to all their grandkids (they have three now) birthday parties, but as the kids got older and the parties more - um - rambunctious, they decided to pass on the larger celebrations!

Wendy: Maybe arrange to walk over and pick up next year's card from Cromarty?

OK, back to sorting out stuff.

  • Annette: O.K. that seems to be good plan.....but I could look a bit silly if they decide not to send me one next year!!

  • Rather late signing in today.

Linda, OH and I had a laugh at your Monday smiles. Sounds as if you are have had 'one of those days'. Hope everything has quietened down now.

Alan, Thanks for pointing out the West African team report. I really would love to be with them.

Margo, Our rain started last night and carried on until this afternoon, with more due to start shortly until tomorrow morning. Local river has now spread onto the fields, where their are now swans and waders. There were sheep on one of the fields last week and the cricket pitch loooks suitable for water polo. Rhys's birthday party sounded such good fun, shame he had a cold though.

OG. You are making me feel guilty, with all your clearing out. When we moved here, four years ago. we cleared everything and I said I would never allow all the paper to accumulate again, but there are now draws which are full of letters/ cards and anything my OH doesn't know where to put, as long as it is not his desk. Thanks for your lovely siskin and goldfinch photographs.

Thanks for all your posts and pictures. I am trying to multi-task, ie. watch Silent Witness and write this. Not being successful at either,

    ' See' you ALL tomorrow.

  • Linda - thanks for the Monday smiles and so glad you managed to see Tomasz this weekend.

Alan - thanks for the link for the Rutland Ospreys, makes for interesting reading.

Not had much rain here at all, we seem to miss the worse when it comes.

Here is Phoebe taken just a few minutes ago. Still closeups and sharp.  Not long to go before the eggs hatch.

  • OG - forgot to mention what great pics of the goldfinches they are.
