Morning all: Long day at the rose garden - poor Robert who supervises the volunteers has been fighting off a bug and a couple of us stayed on longer than usual to help him clean up stuff. I'm sure I'll be stiff tomorrow. Not as many folks showed up as last year and some of the beds were pruned by city employees which means we'll have to go over those beds again since they did a fairly perfunctory job.
Watching Mad Men (Netflix rental video of first season). Great viewing when you're too tired to think. Take care all and have a nice Sunday.
Auntie - Sorry you are "under the weather" (as we say). I rather like the idea of a crawling nose - perhaps that is one that just drips instead of running? Actually your language skills are great. Don’t fuss about it!!!! And get well soon.
Annette - I hope the roses weren't ruined. Viva volunteers! They do a task 'cos they love it.
Yesterday & today a Schutzenfest in Adelaide, celebrating the German pioneers who settled here. I am somewhat amused that it is a Bavarian style beer-drinking, shooting, beer-drinking, folk dancing, beer-drinking amusement since the majority of the German emigrants in the 1800s were rather dour Lutherans from Prussia & Silesia. Never let facts get in the way of an excuse to revel. LOL
Main road Adelaide to Melbourne flooded near Horsham & Stawell. Detours necessary. Now floods in South Africa. What are the weather gods doing to us.
PATRICIAT Sorry to hear of Nells brothers death. My friend who has the Huskies had to have 2 put to sleep in the last 3 months of 2010. They were 13 and 14 but always so very sad even when you know it is for the best. They now have 5 Huskies , one who was part of the old team and Mungo the Scandanavian Hound. They are thinking of getting another Scandanavian Hound.
Thought I would post this from Scottish pictures. Imagine waking up to find this Kestrel looking in through your bedroom window!!!!!
What a great pic!
One Life - Live It!!
Dibnlib: Great kestrel pic. We see quite a lot round here but never that close.
I thought I would start the day with a white tailed eagle on the Estonian webcam:
Morning, Everyone: Indeed, a great start to the day, with the lovely Kestrel pic from dibnlib and Alan's Eagles..... beautiful birds, both. Welcome to Valmc who I havn't seen on here before....
Its a grey January day here, with the long grey clouds looking like someones long johns stretched out across a damp sky. I'm off to do some baking to take with us as we are off to visit Sweetpea & Family this afternoon, and meeting up with our 'other halves', the grandparents-in-law, who sound just as thrilled as we are!
ps. Had to laugh at AQ's description of the Beerfest - I'm sure those Lutherians would not have approved!
Good Morning ALL. Back home now from Scotland, after daughter- in-law's, step father's funeral.
Annette, Obviously no roses here, but I can see about 2" of our daffodils poking through the soil.
Auntie, Hope you are soon feeling better. Having to work so hard will not help you.
AQ, Sounds more liike a German beer festival rather than the Lutheran pioneer settlers.
Dibnlib, Brilliant kestrel picture. I wonder what it could see inside that it fancied for it's next meal.
Alan Thanks for the white tailed eagle picture.
Linda, Do enjoy your day, seeing sweetpea and your daughter-in- law's parents.
I must now catch up with three days posts from last week! The sun is shining here but a very gusty wind.
Sorry and Hello, Valmc, I missed your post.
Hi Brenda, glad you're back safely from the funeral & hope it all went OK, as much as these things can.
I've just been reading back as was not on here yesterday... Thanks to Alan for the lovely link to the Hornby Eagles bit of film- what a wonderful view of the nearby lake they have.
Sheila - so sorry to hear about your friend - so sad. Thanks for your praise for the film review (<blush>) glad you found it helpful. I would have liked to write a lot more, but am afraid of boring those not interested.
Had to laugh at margo's choice of present for Rhys!!! what fun - but not for the parents!! So pleased to hear that your dear sister is feeling more like herself, now, margo.
Sorry that auntie has had a bad throat - hope it doesn't develop into anything ghastly, auntie. Love your word "chaotically" which is exactly right, and a good word to use! Thanks to those who sympathised with my sore throat which I have had for several days, and am now thrilled to report has almost disappeared, so I can now go & visit my 6 week old grandson - Hurray!! Am very relieved that it has not developed into anything nasty. I put the cure down to eating up the last of the Christmas chocolate, and gargling (& swallowing) plenty of good whisky!! Also lolled on the sofa yesterday afternoon, watching an old Buster Keaton movie in b & white, and laughing whilst eating said chocolate!! Good cure for anything, laughing!
Enjoy the remainder of your weekend.
Morning All. A blustery but dry day here, with sneaky glimpses of blue sky - but is it enough to make a pair of sailor's trousers?
So glad your gardening day at the Mission went well Annette. It's a pity your city employees didn't do a better job, it makes it twice the work. I know what you mean about feeling stiff. I had an hour in the garden yesterday, cutting back some herbaceous plants and removing the leaves on the hellebores to let the flowers show in their glory. I didn't take my kneeler out with me, and as it was so wet underfoot I did a lot of bending and stretching of the legs.
Patriciat I was so sorry to hear of your friend's border collie. Pets form such a major part of your life, their departure leaves a huge hole.
Nice to hear from you yesterday Auntie, but sorry to hear you have been working so hard and not exactly feeling on top of things. As others have said, you have no need to worry about your English, it is extremely articulate, and puts me to shame at times! Had I not been aware you are from Finland I doubt I would have realised you were not English! I have often thought how depressing it must be to live in total darkness for a couple of months. Although I may moan about our weather at times, I never cease to enjoy the seasons and all the changes each brings forth.
AQ and Lynette I see you were both commenting on Easter chocolate being spotted in shops. Yesterday's Tesco (oh, why do I keep going back there. As a corporate body I really do not like their tactics to impose new shops of supermarkets on our small traditional towns) trip showed Easter Bunnies galore, but I don't think I actually spotted an Egg.
AQ Adelaide to Melbourne road flooded, eh? Another Google search to check this out. A long road. 732km and nine hours to travel. It's about 400miles from me to our friends west of Kinross and takes just over 7 hours. I think that some of the qualifying matches and practise matches at the Australian Open had to be postponed because of heavy rain. That doesn't really bode well for the tennis tournament itself. Does this tournament have as wide a following in Australia as Wimbledon does here?
Lovely photos Lynette. I had a peak at the bears this morning and just caught a grunt and slight movement. Perhaps it was a dream of a cache of fruit!
dibnlib what a wonderful photo of the kestrel. Knowing my luck, if that happened to me, by the time I had grabbed the camera it would have been long gone! May I ask, what were you doing for two years on Shetland. How wonderful. But battling with the elements must have been trying at times.
Margo I hope your tea with Rhys went well.
Glad your cold symptoms have not developed, and that you have a lovely time with Sweet Pea and his family.
Brenda I hope the travelling to and fro the funeral was not problematic. I am sure your daughter-in-law appreciated your support. It is such a difficult time for you all.
Sun is shining! I think another hours stretching in the garden is beckoning.
Have a lovely day everyone.

Afternoon all,
Patriciat : Sorry to hear about Nells younger brother. He was a good age for a border collie.
BrendaH : Glad you got back safely from the funeral.
SheilaFE: Not done much in the garden yet apart from removing all the dead geraniums.
Thanks to everyone else for the chat etc.
Very mild today with temp currently at 13c. Nice dry roads and Hamish enjoyed his walk especially as it was windy. We went to Huntingdon Garden and Leisure this morning just to get out of the house for an hour or 2 but there was nothing much to see apart from loads of old Christmas stuff at half price. Quite a good afternoons footie on the tele so I expect I will be watching some of that.
Have a good sunday everyone.
