Having read the last two reports from MB can anyone enlighten me as to the exact point at which 32(11) changed sex from male to female? I seem to have missed that.
Lynette fantastic updates from RW and the satelite tagging, the jury was out but it is wonderful to see the comparisons and my worries have not completely gone however I find it fascinating and RW did the tagging for Ospreys going missing but really have to say, amazing how AW,Einion and 09 have all met at the same point somewhere. We are all learning so much from this.
Sandy, I am fascinated by the progress by these Ospreys and someone made a mistake and do smile how can 32(11) change from a male to female. Do get it and yes laughing, you have a good sense of humour.
seriously it does need to be put right. :)

Went to MB yesterday, not knowing if Mrs and 32 were still there (I saw Tim's tweet 2 minutes after getting back!). Both hides were deserted and it was eerily quiet - for the past month and more you could hear the juves food-begging from half a mile away as you walked along the path. Now the silence was deafening. I'm actually really pleased that the last two departed yesterday - they should get away before the storm hits tomorrow night.
So, just to confirm:
No 5R on his perch.
Nor Mrs on hers. . .
. . . and finally, an empty nest.
With all five now on their travels south I wish them a safe journey to wherever they're going, and I'm already looking forward to next March when, hopefully, 5R and Mrs will return to do it all again. There's also the possibility next year of seeing one or more of their first brood returning for the first time, so plenty to look forward to.
Sandy, I too am mystified; I have checked and re-checked the Manton Bay Diary and can find no word other than at ringing they thought they were all males and that is what I have been telling visitors all season. Initially I thought Liz had made a mistake but then Tim also referred to 32(11) as female. I have asked the question on the blog but to date have not received a reply.
I shall have an answer after tomorrow's end of season party.
Yes, Lynda, I've been calling them boys all summer long!
Just wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for all your work at the RW osprey project. It's been another fantastically successful season at RW and that success is in no small part down to the dedication of the army of volunteers. I'd really appreciate it if you could pass om my thanks and congratulations to all the staff and volunteers at tomorrow's bash.
Re: your earlier post about Tim Appleton and Roy Dennis and the reintroduction project. I think we can now safely say that the Rutland Osprey Project is a resounding success and the vision and determination of those two gentlemen has borne fruit. Anyone living in the south of the UK, and who loves to see ospreys, will have a lot to thank them for in the coming years.
