I just remembered Sandy, that they have been able to move chicks to 'foster' nests or relocate them, so what you say makes a lot of sense. Thanks
Brenda: I'm not sure whether 5R would be too chuffed if 33(11) makes a habit of it. He has a hard enough time of it supplying the fish for three hungry juves, let alone four.
Very interesting to see what happen next, Sandy.
Which one is 33? And what colour leg ring has it got?
If nothing goes right, go left! :-)
This incident reminds me of something which happened on the DPOF nest back in 2006. Sadly there is no video of the incident but there is still forum comments.
The three juveniles were still around the nest when a rough tough intruder turned up and demanded bed and breakfast. The intruder did get both.
The two threads describing the incident can be read here and here and here

Thanks Alan. I am enjoying the action on this nest.

Absolutely GREAT stuff ALAN - I've bookmarked the story for my hiking friend (see her Sat)
There doesn't appear to be a lack of fish at MB:
