Busy all day - will catch up tomorrow. Have a good Sunday all (don't forget to check last pages of previous thread. Somebody has been posting photos of puppies again!)

Hi folks, just caught up again with your news.
Dibnib - was he handsome your RAF guy!! going back a bit though.
Not much happening at Lily's den at present, picture too blurred and too early in the morning for the Hornby Island Eagles or Pensylvania site. Will keep looking in and take a pic if worthwhile.
Weather is quite balmy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! considering but is expected to get back to being colder again next week.
Isn't it sad about Brazil, although a bit more heartening about the Queensland floods - they say the water is beginning to recede. Its apparently all to do with La Nina with warm waters off Australia and the cold water pushing up to meet it. Its in a lower position than normal and is affecting the Southern half of the globe more than usual.
Diane - do hope your trip will revive you and you will feel a lot better after it, have a great time meeting up with friends etc.
Annette - re red wine, I think its because the white isn't as concentrated as the red but could be wrong. Still prefer the red though, had three glasses last night so have had my quota for a couple of days!!! Going out for a meal on Sat with daughter and a group from Junior Church to a local pub. Should be a pleasant evening plus more wine.

RSPB Giving Nature a Home
Afternoon, all. (That sounds a bit like Dixon of Dock Green with his "evening all" - why do I suddenly think of this unrelated bits!). I've been reading some on-line newpapers and catching up generally. I know that a few of you are tennis fans like me, and we are about to start keeping and eye open for news on the Australian Open which starts on Monday. The draw takes place tomorrow, but on Sunday afternoon the players are taking part in a fund raising event for flood relief 'Rally for Relief', and various events will take place within the fortnight of the tournament. http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/news/articles/2011-01-13/201101131294889066250.html It bring the devastation even more closer to us. The vid with Sam Stosur and Pat Rafter is quite moving - both are from Queensland. By the way I also note that Murray is now ranked 5, with Soderling at 4.
I was also dismayed to read of the flooding in Brazil with over 330 dead. It seems that Al Nino has a lot to answer for around the world.
Diane What a wonderful experience with the red tailed hawk. Nice to think he is keeping an eye on you. It the tyre sorted now? I hope you have a lovely break with your friends in Indianapolis, with plenty of wet noses and wagging tails to cheer you up.
Lindybird enjoy your cuddles with Sweetpea at the weekend.
Brenda I will be thinking of you and your family at the weekend. I hope the travel plans work out.
dibnib I always feel that I am doing my bit for this so-called 'global warming' lark, by not having children. But sometimes I wonder whether it would have given me more confidence, because you HAVE to get involved, defend your corner, deal with blood (meaning tend the wounds) etc! The aged Aunt is a spinster, and my dear late mother was an only child. Perhaps it is in the genes!
OG your bird club discussions sounds really interesting. It was a bit worrying about some of the Barnacle Geese being underweight and the snow arriving before they were able to recover following their migration. I guess there is not much that can be done to supplement their food at this stage. Just hope thee is enough grass still around which hasn't been flattened/damaged by the snow. Sorry to hear the reports of unsuccessful blood extraction! Hope it wasn't too painful.
Margobird what an amazing sight 100,000 starlings in the sky must be. I do hope you manage to get to see them.
Thank you Alan for the link to the eagle nest. All looks calm.
I've had conversations with Aunt's GP, pharmacist and visiting care team today. I hope to get some joined up writing soon, or hope they will start talking to each other.

And here is Phoebe today. She'd just left her nest briefly and came back and settled again.
Hi EVERYONE :) Thanks for all the Chat and pics, etc. You are a “lively” bunch … it’s hard to keep up with all the news :)))
I survived the winter storm … thanks for your concern. It actually wasn’t as bad as predicted … only about 15 cm. of snow fell in Halifax (some regions got nearly 30 cm.) but the winds were extremely high, gusting around 80km/hr. Lots of events, etc. were canceled last evening, most flights in and out of the airport were canceled, and road conditions were hazardous with many accidents.
Re: Phoebe. I read in the Chat yesterday that they believe this to be a “new” Phoebe from the one that laid the 1st clutch last Fall. I was beginning to doubt there were 2 eggs as I’ve only been able to catch a glimpse of one, that is until this morning (barely visible but it’s there) . . .
Last evening’s local news reported thousands of grey seals coming ashore to give birth on Pictou Island. This is due to the lack of ice in the Northumberland Strait (between Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island). A similar event happened back in 2006. I couldn’t find the recent occurrence online, but here is a news report from 2006 (video does not appear to load): http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/SciTech/20060131/seals_birth_060131/. Speaking of seals, I see Canada has entered into an agreement with China to export seal meat and oil. A very controversial topic and one I do not support! Story here: http://thechronicleherald.ca/Front/1221734.html.
Sue the T. Rex has arrived! This is a replica of the original Tyrannosaurus Rex found completely intact in South Dakota, and was named Sue after its founder Susan Hendrickson. This is its first visit to Canada (having arrived from Kuwait) and is on display at the Museum of Natural History. The original T. Rex is housed at the Field Museum in Chicago (http://www.fieldmuseum.org/sue/#index). A newly-born Siberian Tiger cub is struggling at the Calgary Zoo after its mother seemed to have abandoned it. It is now in the care of the staff … http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/Canada/20110112/tiger-cub-calgary-zoo-emergency-care-110112/
The Antarctic penguin chicks are getting very big!
Unfortunately they changed the camera angle and you don’t get a good view of them (http://www.martingrund.de/pinguine/pinguincam2.htm). Perhaps they’re anticipating the mums becoming more mobile and this affords the best view to see them scampering about.
That’s my news for today. Enjoy your day ... happy chatting :)
Cheers!
LYNETTE I was only 20 and Wg Cdr probably seemed too over the hill to even size him up.....how things change!!!! however OH would like me to say that he was considered rather a handsome RAF guy in his time - and not bad now I hasten to add, he was military Air Traffic Controller Sqn Ldr and not Dentist wg Cdr.
