Weekly Chat, Sunday January 9, 2010

Busy all day - will catch up tomorrow. Have a good Sunday all (don't forget to check last pages of previous thread. Somebody has been posting photos of puppies again!)

  • Hello All, ( nearly time to say goodnight ). Just been one of those days when one job has lead to another. Think I have finished now !  I even hoovered inside son's car before he picks it up, but no idea when that will be. The funeral for DiL's step father will not be until Friday.

Annette, Hope the desk building is now finished and you are happy with the results.

OG, So good to hear that your son is now enjoying life again. I hope all goes well for him. There seems to be a big increase in birds with overgrown beaks. Your starling, from your description, sounds as if it could be having trouble feeding. I also aired the house today and it felt so much fresher afterwards.

Dibnlib, Great to hear about your steady progress. I admire how you have been coping with your injury.

Linda, Thanks for the Monday smiles. Glad you were able to have a shower at last. The same thing happened to our daughter recently. Trouble was that it was a major burst and it was only a temporary repair and the following week, the water was off for a full day while they did a proper repair. She had to go to her gym for a shower.

Margo, Glad you were able to see your sister, but so sorry to hear how badly she and her husband have been treated. I don't understand why even her GP didn't refer her  to a hospital well before she had to be taken into one. Take care of yourself.

George, Sorry you are trapped indoors by the snow again. Hope the thaw continues.

Just enjoyed watching Silent Witness, but have to wait for part 2 tomorrow night.

Must stop now, as I feel so tired. Good Night

  • Hi folks, just caught up with all your news.

Lindybird - thanks for the Monday smile. Oh dear, no water for a shower, we were without hot water for 3 days, had our friendly builder in to sort it out on Friday.  Thermostat still wasn't working properly so rang this morning and he came this evening, adjusted it, fine thought it would be OK after an hour, water still not up to right heat and he put it on maximum so will have to get him back tomorrow, all frustrating.

No doubt you've had one by now!!

Margobird - thanks for reporting about your visit to your sister's. It must be heartrending for her husband to see her like this.  It sounds as if there has been a communication breakdown somewhere or just total incompetence,I hope he gets a satisfactory explanation!!    Still thinking of you.

Looked at Lily' s den but picture is quite blurred, gone in a bit too close but can just make them out.

The starling did look sorry for himself, didn't he.

Well, off to the dentist tomorrow for that extraction, ughhhh, so will probably feel a little sore later. Never mind its nothing compared to the suffering of some.

  • Margo - It is bad enough to have health problems without the authorities messing your sister around. Let’s hope they get their act together soon. My thoughts are with your sister & family.

I must stop moaning about our humid unpleasant weather here in South Aussieland. Yesterday Toowoomba in Queensland suffered a flash flood - 8 drowned and 72 missing. Meanwhile south of Perth in Western Australia firefighters are battling a bushfire that has destroyed 3 homes and livestock.

  • Evening all: All I can say good about today is that we're two-thirds of the way through it!  :-)

Lindybird:  Glad the water problem resolved and that you finally managed to take a shower.  Funny how the ironing surivives isn't it?

Alan: Well, the wood is still in the middle of my allegedly new office since have been dealing with other matters today. If it's still there this time tomorrow, will put a match to it where it is!!  Thanks for links,  must confess I'm having a hard time keeping up with the feeders in our own backyard right now.

OG: Yes, well, you know how it is - once men start a project, it's all theirs, isn't it? And heaven only knows how/when it'll be done (see Lindybird's Monday smile for more info!).  Thanks for collywobbles derivation - makes sense. Turned off Downton Abbey after 40 minutes and went to bed with book.

BrendaH: Desk building on hold until tomorrow. Sigh.

George:  If you're reluctant to take on permanent responsibility for a dog, any chance you could "foster" one (we have dog foster homes here - I think associated with the local humane society), or maybe there's a shelter nearby where you could volunteer to take resident dogs for a walk?  Or maybe be a dogsitter?  Seems a shame to deprive you and any dog of good company!  See Lindybird has been on her soapbox - sounds good to me! Silly blackbirds sound  a lot like our silly hummingbirds - wasting precious energy to chase each other around the garden.

Margobird:  Oh no, will have to check out Lola update. Palemale doesn't seem to have wasted any time finding a replacement!!  :-((     So sorry things so difficult for you right now. Please give yourself a big hug!

AQ: Oh no, more bad news from Queensland.  Just awful. Was listening to a BBC podcast about it while at the gym; poor people.  You're right in that our complaints are minor when compared to what some people are going through.

OK well, how soon can I decently pour a glass of wine?  No time like the present!   Take care all.

  • Hello ALL: Been reading but not contributing as not much has been going on up here in the Highlands. Not seen the lawn for 4 days and last week we had freezing conditions which made the roads really dodgy.

BUT we have just had an amazing sight on our back lawn,,,I though OH was having a bit of a fit with lots of unjoined up words and arm waving..but it was the sighting of a red squirrel on the lawn. We knew they were up here abouts as I see them in the woods but this is the first time so close in all the 9 years we have been here. If he/she remembers our peanut feeders I am sure he/she will return..one can only hope.

Annette I was told that flat pack is best put together by children as they don't think about too much...you could hire one for a day.

More positive as starting to plan my next trip to girls down south. Will probably cross paths with EJ as she comes up the M6. Will visit Arne as there will be some ospreys having R and R before their trips north.

Off to gym later and everyone have good day.

  • Hello - a bit grey & damp still, here.

I had a bad night for some inexplicable reason, but surprisingly don't feel too bad this morning - perhaps it will catch up with me later!

Will be thinking about Lynette today as it's her day for going for that extraction of the troublesome tooth - not nice, but no doubt necessary, Lynette.  Hope all goes well.

Annette:  It sounds as if it's all happening at your house!   I'm sure you will be heaving a big sigh of relief when you can wave the workmen Goodbye.

AQ:   Shocked to hear how the weather conditions are affecting you all in Australia.  Sounds just awful.  Your heart goes out to those who have lost their possessions, but worst of all, today there are deaths reported.

Well, I'm off to get a shower, for which I shall be grateful. then into the town for several errands (none of which are exciting!)  Have a Good Day, All.

EDIT:   ps-   Red squirrels, Wendy??  How wonderful!  Hope he/she comes back!

  • Good Morning ALL,  Very cloudy morning after the overnight rain, but does feel milder.

No news this end. All is quiet and I hope it stays that way. Also hoping that there will be no problems with weather and flights for Friday so that we are able to attend the funeral of DiL's step father. We had all become good friends over the 14 years since the children met at university and would often meet up. We have even had holidays together.

Lynette, Hope all goes well for you at the dentist.

AQ, Horrendous pictures of the floods and further evacuation of people from their homes and then, as you say, there are people losing their homes because of bushfires. I feel so sorry for all the people involved.

Annette, I guess it is best not to ask about your yesterday. I just hope that today proves to be a much better day.

Wendy, Lovely to hear about your red squirrel visitor. We see plenty of the grey variety, and you will understand when I say ,I don't get excited. Just chased one from digging in our large pots, where the daffodil bulbs are showing their green shoots.

Linda, Sorry you had a bad night

Probably 'see you ' all later.

  • Morning all :

GeorgeG : Sorry you have had such bad weather. I hope you will be able to get out and about more soon. I am with Linda about the dog. Just go for it.

OG : Thanks for the heads up on Lily and Hope. I managed to see Lily ok but not Hope.

BrendaH : I also watched Silent Witness and enjoyed it , Looking forward to second part this eveningLadyP hates all the gory bits.

WendyB : How lucky to have a red squirrel so close. The last one I saw was at Roseisle last time we were in Scotland.

Aq : Terrible pictures on the news of the floods.

Annette : Glad your landscaping is two thirds of the way through. I bet you will be glad when everything is back to normal. Who needs a desk anyway when you have a laptop?

Weather is dull and dreich after overnight rain, Current temp 6.4c. We are forecast a high of 12c tomorrow. Certainly making up for a cold December now. Not a lot planned for today. May watch some of the snooker in the afternoon.

  • ALAN: We were pretty excited as you could tell. Luckily we have never seen a grey one up and long may it stay that way.

At Roseisle last week fro a walk to Burghead along the shore and back via the woods. Planning to do the car park to Findhorn walk next much longer but a really good pub there so I am sure it will be worth while.

Driving down the long road to the car park we stopped for a while by the field which was awash with curlew and as ever no camera.

  • Just a quick post to post this link, very exciting news in the New Forest.  Will read an reply to other posts once I have read through.
