HAPPY NEW WEEK!

I hope everyone has the best week possible.

The beautiful red male Northern Cardinal is indicating that he and his mate intend to nest above the windows of my porch again this year. I'm very happy, because I love watching them and listening to the babies. I hope the raccoons will leave the eggs alone. We continue to have an over population of raccoons here.

Note: Lindy left a post on the end of the last thread.

Love and hugs to you all!

  • Thank you dear Diane!   How lovely for you to have the Cardinals setting up house nearby.  We had our first visit of the season from a spectacular orange and black Bullock Oriole this week; also some ultra-fluffy fledglings at the fountain.  And of course, the incredibly shrill but chirpy Northern Mockingbird who goes on and on and on......  It was so loud my husband closed the patio door at one point.

OG: Sorry you didn't manage the car

Rusty:  That blackthorn bush is spectacular.  And the aquaduct is amazing.

Heather  How was your new gardener?

Lindybird: How long do you think you'll be working on the mystery project?  I'm sure we're all speculating. :-) Have a safe drive home.

Hope everyone has a good Sunday!

  • DIANE – Thank you for starting us again. Wonderful that your feathered lodgers have returned, obviously they recognize a friendly landlady.

LINDA – A new way to get one’s medical results soonest – phone and say you have someone else’s!!! Please slow down, you need to spend a few more hours/days just sitting.

I was watering the front lawn early this morn as we are having another run of hot weather. Max 34 C today and not expected below mid-20s until next Saturday. OH’s friendly magpie who often visits was taking a shower under the sprinkler. Often they would chat but she keeps her distance from me.

Big flurry here about hot cross buns. Many new varieties. I sampled the apple & cinnamon and the raspberry & white choc. Ho hum. Then I returned to the traditional. Hmm. I think I really prefer the plain yeast fruit bun after all but I shall probably weaken this week and get a few HCB for Easter.

Yesterday’s report on QLD floodwaters nearing our state’s Lake Eyre.

  • Thank you Diane. So pleased the cardinals have decided to make their home with you again. Fingers crossed the raccoons don’t find them.

Annette - I had to look up your 2 avian visitors!

Nice to hear reports from your garden too AQ.
Lindy - I hope you are continuing to be able to rest and relax in Wales. Also, good news about your test results which you got in a very roundabout way. What a shambles!

I am having a quiet weekend. Just pottering. A friend is coming this afternoon so that I can (hopefully) sort out some techie issue on her phone. She is bringing lemon drizzle cake!!!!!

  • I'm with Rusty2 on that one Diane. Really pleased for you that the cardinals are making their home again   above your porch.  Your raccoons   are my feral pigeons  - ye  gods ! Trusting this year  will be so much better for you every way round. Sending love and positive thoughts for everything to do with you and your home being  good  throughout 2025.

  • Morning all:

AQ: During the last few years when we had heavier than normal rainfail, Tulare Lake in the Central Valley, which had been dry for 130 years, filled up again.   Re traditional baked goodies, give me a basic hot cross bun or donut any time over all the flavored wannabees.

Rusty:  I seem to remember the same friend making lemon drizzle cake not too long ago at some event.

Costco always opens their doors about 15 minutes before the official time so am off to do a lightning quick tour.  Great granddaughter went on field trip with her Marine Biology club at school and saw loads of humpbacks. Will send photos etc later.

  • Hi!  Sun is still shining – just a few raindrops after we got home this morning – enough to say “ah, yes, that was a minute of light shower”!  E-E has been in the garden this afternoon – including some watering of herbs which had been moved.

LINDA – probably better weather this week for your Easter break rather than next week.  Glad you had a good medical result – eventually!

DIANE – thanks for the new week.  Pleased that the Cardinals have intentions for the porch window again.

ANNETTE – good to see that you too have some spectacular – if loud – birds visiting.  A lot of our birds seem to shout rather than sing!  Good that GGD saw the hump-backs – are you ever tempted to rejoin the whale watching?  We are getting reports of extra cetacean species around the UK now – following the warm waters of global warming.

AQ – I noticed some weird flavours of Hot Cross Buns in M&S on Wednesday – we stick to the luxury fruited variety – may have said before that we often have them for breakfast - they sell them all year through, not just for Good Friday.

  • OG - I too often have a HXB for breakfast. The luxury fruited variety for me too with lots of butter!!!!!

  • Have been trying to get on here but have had connection /WiFi problems. We went out for Sunday lunch at our favourite place & I enjoyed Roast Turkey with my OH having Roast Beef. Then his favourite pud, fruit Crumble and mine was Lemon Cheesecake. We had booked online to make sure of getting in, as we were in effect celebrating early for our Wedding Anniversary tomorrow.  When we returned to base, we were too full to do anything for a couple of hours!I

Sunny here once the clouds had parted, but a very chilly wind so it's back to coats on.

We drive back home tomorrow as my OH will fret if we stay longer - so much still to do and anyway he had a phone call, and now has an appointment at the hospital for Tuesday. Pictures to follow later of the views here (writing this on my tablet as my phone won't connect)

  • HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to LINDA & OH.
