Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 16 March 2025

HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY EQUINOX!

The spring equinox is 20 March at 9:01 a.m. in the UK and 20 March at 2:01 a.m. in California. The autumn equinox is 20 March at 7:31 p.m. in Adelaide, Australia.

Where I live, we are in that transition when one day it's hot and the next day we freeze in the snow.

No flowers are blooming here yet. The trees are fully budding out though. The super-mosquitos are alive and well and have taken up residence in my bedroom again this year! I haven't seen the groundhog yet.

Everyone have the best week possible.

Love and hugs to you all.

  • Thank you to all who wished me the best in last night's storm. I'm okay, although it was a stressful night. Several states had devastation and deaths. I appreciate your caring.

It was nice to see Sunny Kate and Cirrus on here last week!

  • ANNETTE: I just saw the announcement that one of the Big Bear Valley baby eagles died. So sad.

  • DIANE – Thank you for starting us a new week. Glad you survived another storm.

Our sky is a strange colour today – sort of white. I believe it is known as clouds.

I ventured out to a church today to capture 2 windows and a WWI honour board. The congregation disappeared to a meeting, leaving me alone in the church. How trusting! What if I were a vandal?

Tomorrow I am having lunch with School Friend; deferred from (oh dear) November. I must start copying RUSTY.

  • Hello Everyone - I'm so relieved to see you on here, Diane. They are currently showing the devastation in several States after the terrible storms. The poor wildlife must suffer too. (Edit: I hope your property is all OK and not too much damage around you)

Sunny here and so cheering not to have the rain. Its still chilly and there was frost this morning but slightly warmer temps are predicted for this week.

AQ - Glad you were able to get out to look at churches again. Here, most of them have to have locked doors because of vandalism, but I remember in my youth they were mostly open all day.

Enjoy your lunch out and chat with School Friend. We will have to turn you into Rusty!!

    Have a nice Sunday, everyone.

  • Thank you Diane for starting our new week. I was so relieved to see that you had been able to do so. That meant you had electricity. I hope you, your property and your critters didn’t sustain any damage. It must have been scary. I, like Lindy, have been watching and reading about the destruction in some states.

AQ - yes, I am glad you are back out photographing churches. I can highly recommend lunching out!!! Enjoy.

OG - I am pleased you were able to get out as usual last week. Good to hear that some progress is being made in your garden too.

I met 2 friends for coffee yesterday at the local garden centre. One of my friends had booked a table as it is very popular. Well, they seemed to think we had booked one of their outside gazebos!! Really??? They had no other tables available so we left and went to one of the friends houses. Fortuitously, she had baked a lemon drizzle cake!!! We had a lovely morning chatting and admiring her garden.

I have done quite a lot of work in the garden this weekend and am pleased with the results. I am currently preparing the plot for my sweet peas. I have put the canes up. I also cut the grass again yesterday. It’s lovely to be out in this crisp sunny weather.

  • LINDY  Yes, I remember when churches used to stay open, how sad that in many cases that is no longer possible.  I also lived in Shetland when no one locked their doors or window even if they were away on holiday.  We left in 1995 and I doubt it is the same today.

  • Thank goodness you are OK, DIANE.

  • Decided I am awake enough to write a bit!  Had great difficulty waking up this morning and OH decided I was not fit to go to church – so I have missed two consecutive weeks.  He stayed home too, and was thus able to do some gardening – veg plot is ready for sowing, he just needs to wash the cold frames and put them in place to warm the soil.  He has hung on to that plot despite getting the gardener in for most of the garden.  I have designated the new herb section around where he has put the new mint – in a sunken tub to restrain it’s roots from taking over the whole plot.

I was surprised and relieved that DIANE could start the thread, although I noticed that the weather reports seem to suggest worst damage is to the south.

Horrible news from North Macedonia fire last night – all those young people lost, and not a big town.  Apparently there are laws about who can go to nightclubs, but it seems enforcement is poor.

Expecting a normal Monday tomorrow – cleaners included.  Don’t know if there will be any gardening weather – I hope so as E_E seems quite inspired to continue.

BTW, my leg is almost fully healed now, but other one is following on – looks just about ready to open up and go through the same process!

  • I feel bad that I haven't posted much - but I lead such a quiet life, theres not a lot to say!

I remember that you were talking about your frustration with the online bank, LINDY. I have accounts with two banks. One is so easy to use online, the other wants me to jump through many hoops. The other day an email arrived from them saying ' how did we do?'. So I told them and didn't mince my words. It made me feel better but I don't suppose anything will change.

Another moan coming up - as I've got older I seem to have inherited a tendency from my mum  -restless legs when trying to sleep. Drives me scatty. Does anyone here have this?

  • Yes, I do have that problem Heather. Not often, but it does keep me awake.

I do not post much either. My life is also rather humdrum. Seems to be a round of medical appointments and blood tests for my OH. At last I think we are getting somewhere, but it took a private consultation to do this.

I went out to lunch today ( hello Rusty) with a friend for the first time since November.  Naturally, we sorted the world!

Hoping for some warmer weather later in the week to work on the neglected pots on my terrace. The daffodils are nearly over, but the tulips have started to bloom. Seeds to be sown now.
