Alyth is located in Perth and Kinross on the east coast of Scotland. The Osprey nest is at the Alyth SSEN Transmission sub station and is the tallest of all the nests on camera in the UK.
Background information:-
The Ospreys have nested at the site for many years since around 1990.
They were nesting on a nearby electricity tower, but due to a planned expansion of the site a decision was taken to resite the old nest to a specially constructed 25-metre nesting tower and two nearby 8.5 metre resting perches, which were erected in 2014. Ornithologist and osprey expert Roy Dennis MBE helped advise on the design of the nest.Since that first breeding season in 2014, a total of 21 osprey chicks have been observed to have fledged from the new site.
Due to the height of the tower, unfortunately no ringing can take place.
The resident ospreys are called Harry (unringed) and Flora (blue HK0). They were named in 2022 by children from nearby Meigle primary school. All pupils were also given their own osprey soft toy as a thank you from the teams for getting involved and for showing such enthusiasm about the ospreys.
As with previous years, the ospreys are carefully monitored by an on-site ornithologist throughout the nesting season to ensure any remaining construction work at the substation doesn’t cause any disturbance to the ospreys.
2023 Flora arrived March 30th. Harry arrived April 4th. Three chicks fledged.
2024 Flora arrived March 28th. Harry arrived March 29th. One chick fledged.
2024 was a difficult year for the birds and the watchers and as noted above, only one of the 3 eggs that hatched survived to migration. The online stream was down for much of the time so we couldn’t fully observe what was happening.

Great to see you post Ailie and please keep doing so.
And don't even go there thinking you're kinda rubbish at posting as this website is so challenging we're All amazed we manage to post anything
Indeed, we are all hanging in there! The more posters the better, someone may just catch something that the next person will not. They are starting to arrive now, hopefully a safe return for all. Keep watching !!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Last year Flora arrived 28 March and Harry 29 March so eyes to the skies today!
What a contrast this nest site is to all our others - hardly a green leaf in sight!
30 March
A visitor, sorry it's not the kind we want:
Today is the day scylla
OK, it wasn't the day but, today?
I was down by the nest yesterday 2nd hoping one or both might arrive but, it didn't happen. I did see one other bird fly over from Kinnordy direction then carry on towards Coupar Angus direction, then circle for ages over there.
Photos here
First sighting at 12:46
12:48 - it circled a few times
Then flew overhead
Before carrying on
And circling with a Red Kite, I think
That’s fabulous Scozmos. I viewed your photos on Flicker too. The (unringed?) bird did seem to have a dark necklace but so does Harry, our resident male. I’m sure he would’ve landed on the nest though if it was him. Beautiful bird though, well done getting the captures. Harry and Flora are a bit later this year compared to last when they arrived 29 and 28 March respectively.
Great photos.. we usually visit Alyth at least once a week when Harry and Flora are there.. so great to see a nest “Live” as I type an Osprey lands briefly
