Alyth is located in Perth and Kinross on the east coast of Scotland. The Osprey nest is at the Alyth SSEN Transmission sub station and is the tallest of all the nests on camera in the UK.
Background information:-
The Ospreys have nested at the site for many years since around 1990.
They were nesting on a nearby electricity tower, but due to a planned expansion of the site a decision was taken to resite the old nest to a specially constructed 25-metre nesting tower and two nearby 8.5 metre resting perches, which were erected in 2014. Ornithologist and osprey expert Roy Dennis MBE helped advise on the design of the nest.Since that first breeding season in 2014, a total of 21 osprey chicks have been observed to have fledged from the new site.
Due to the height of the tower, unfortunately no ringing can take place.
The resident ospreys are called Harry (unringed) and Flora (blue HK0). They were named in 2022 by children from nearby Meigle primary school. All pupils were also given their own osprey soft toy as a thank you from the teams for getting involved and for showing such enthusiasm about the ospreys.
As with previous years, the ospreys are carefully monitored by an on-site ornithologist throughout the nesting season to ensure any remaining construction work at the substation doesn’t cause any disturbance to the ospreys.
2023 Flora arrived March 30th. Harry arrived April 4th. Three chicks fledged.
2024 Flora arrived March 28th. Harry arrived March 29th. One chick fledged.
2024 was a difficult year for the birds and the watchers and as noted above, only one of the 3 eggs that hatched survived to migration. The online stream was down for much of the time so we couldn’t fully observe what was happening.

Currently the live stream isn’t on. I don’t know when it is planned to go live. Let’s hope it does.

Hi Wendy and Ailie, hopefully the cam will be on soon and we’ll have a good season.
Thanks Glider for the informative opening to the 2025 thread. Looking forward to the pair returning safely and seeing what will unfold this year.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Thanks for the new thread Glider. Hopefully the cam is up soon.
This nest is just a couple of hours away from me and I really like visiting Perth so hopefully I'll visit and stop by in the area later this year. Be interesting to see their surroundings.
Hi Karen, we can but hope! That would be exciting for you if you got to see Flora and Harry.
I've been going to the nest once or twice a week for the past 2 years when they're there.. the nest is easy enough to see but good binoculars required,.. just hope the webcam is back on soon
great to see the Alyth cam is up and running.. just waiting for Flora and Harry
.
Thank you, GLIDER!
Nice to see you, @Ailie - I started PM-ing you earlier about posing in the old thread but crashed out, so it's just hanging there
