Back for 2025 and hopefully our long established pair CJ7 and 022 will soon be returning for a renewing of their relationship for another year. They have raised 8 chicks to migration over the las 3 years.
2024 saw another successful year on the Poole nest, with 4 chicks successfully raised to migration.
3 female birds from previous years have now established successful nests in Wales, again raising young.
Several birds, both Poole born and from other areas were seen on the various nests in and around the harbour and hopefully they will return and a 2nd and maybe even a 3rd nest being established this year.

Thanks Glider, have noticed especially CJ7 appear to be listening to the eggs and perhaps feeling movement, exciting times!
I was reading about the goshawk attack in 2022, do you happen to know if there is still an active goshawk nest closeby?

I know Wendy, one of my favourite couples too but there are just so many nests to cover these days!
You are doing sterling work Glider, you must be exhausted!

Yes, that year was so so sad. CJ7 saw the goshawk fly towards the youngster 5H2, she flew straight at the goshawk but it had just managed to grab 5H2 then CJ7 grabbed the goshawk and they all tumbled off the nest. We had such high hopes for 5H2’s recovery as she was found on the ground and taken to a vet but sadly it wasn’t to be. I was terrified it would happen again. As far as I’m aware, goshawk are still in the area but haven’t attacked this nest again. 5H1, 5H2’s sister has since returned to the area.
If you click to the beginning of this thread then navigate clicking back to 2024, 2023 and 2022, on page 47 of 2022 there’s a beautiful tribute to 5H2 at the top of the thread.

Thanks Wendy, I try! Labour of love I guess!
Hatching underway here. Post from Poole on Instagram.
CJ7 spotted the hole in the egg and touched it with her beak.

23.17 Still a long way to go. You can see the egg tooth inside the hole as it chips away.
