Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 16 February 2025

HAPPY NEW WEEK!

I hope you all have the best week possible!

The coyotes on my patch have ended their breeding time howling, only to be replaced by the mating calls of the bobcat. She lives deep in the flood plain of the creek that flows along the boundary of my land. This time of year, female bobcats emit piercing, desperate calls that sound like the screaming of a weeping, angry woman. I was lonely on Valentine's Day on Friday, as well as tense from following the U.S. news. I was tempted to climb a tree and scream in solidarity with that bobcat. LOL

Love and hugs to you all.

bjane: It was so nice to see your post to OG at the end of last week's thread. I hope you are well.

  • Diane:  Thank you.  Some animal calls are seriously hair-raising.   Re the news: There was a big rally in Santa Barbara last week (I missed it) that made it onto the Rachel Maddow show - they had seating for a few hundred and more than a thousand showed up.   There was another one today outside the Tesla showroom.   Embarrassed to say I've been avoiding the news - it's so damn' toxic - but am donating to the ACLU etc. and the folks who are out there in the trenches, God Bless 'em.

Spent the best part of last week gathering tax info; have to now see what supporting docs I need to dump in the tax guy's lap.  Granddaughter is set to start the sheriff's academy on Tuesday (Monday is President's Day here, although a lot of people are observing Not My President's Day instead).  I don't think there are going to be any rallies nearby; I think groups in big cities are organizing protests though.

bjane:  Indeed - as Diane says - it's good to see you  How are you doing?

OG: Hope J gets some additional help following the chat.

    Take care all.

  • Thank you Diane. I don’t know whether I would enjoy the screeches of the bobcat but I would join you in your screeching. The news becomes more and more unbelievable and scary.
Annette - good luck with all the tax stuff. I hate paperwork.
Guess what? It is dull grey and damp -again!!!!!! However, things will cheer up when I go out to lunch with all my sister’s family for one of her son in law’s birthday. It will be great to see everyone especially my little great niece and nephews.

  • Thanks Diane, what a beautiful animal the bobcat is.

  • Thank you, DIANE.

ANNETTE - I'm a captive audience when it comes to the News as the radio is on all night. I can scarcely believe some of the stuff I hear. It is very worrying.

RUSTY - Thank you for showing us the snowdrops! I found a clump of them yesterday in my front garden . Lovely.

LINDY - Its good to read that Bonnie is OK and also that your OH has just about finished his chemo.

OG- It does sound as if J is brighter - I'm happy to read that. Regarding hearing - mine has deteriorated but I'm pretending that it hasn't !

DIBNLIB - I'm sorry that your OH has health concerns. You both have a lot on your plates , Sending hugs.

All quiet here. I was at the dentist on Friday but other than that have just been pottering about the house. Middle daughter is still off sick but there is talk of a phased return to work mid March. She can't wait !

I hope that ROSYs OH is making progress - and it's good to see BJANE here.

  • HEATHER  Good to hear that your daughter may be able to return to work next month.

  • Thank you for starting the week for us again Diane. I am sorry that life is not going well for you at the moment. Most of us are quite envious of your wildlife company (with the exception of spiders). I guess these are not seen around at the moment.

Thank you for asking about my OH, Heather. He has still not recovered from his latest stay in hospital. His mobility is not as good as before and the recent recurrence of sciatica does not help. He needs to have fortnightly blood tests. His cognitive ability has also deteriorated. I have not posted recently as I do not wish to seem negative.

  • On a lighter note, I like to take the longer, scenic route when I go shopping in my nearest town.  I walk along the river and pass a bank beside some steps leading up to the road. At the moment there are snowdrops there. Not such a splendid sight as Rusty's lovely picture, but not bad for an urban setting. There are some flats nearby, so I think someone there must have planted them. This is my third spring in this area, so I know that daffodils will follow, then tulips, then hyacinths. I much admire guerrilla gardeners. Some people plant flowers in the street that my daughter lives in. It makes such a difference to the general ambiance of the area.

  • Rosy - I am so sorry your OH isn’t doing so well. It must be so difficult for both of you. I am sure your scenic walk has some kind of restorative powers. It is wonderful what nature can produce.
The meal out with the family went very well. They all decided to come back here (the nearest place to the restaurant) for birthday cake and cups of tea. My place isn’t that big so it was noisy, chaotic and fun.
This morning I must pop into town and then this afternoon I am taking the lesson at the French group. I found an article about someone’s first visit to stay with their French penfriend. I set homework for people to write a paragraph about their first visit to France which they can tell us about in the class. Then I have done some exercises around the passage which we will read and discuss in groups. After that I have prepared some general questions about travelling to France. To finish I have got some grammar exercises. I know some people in the group love the challenge of that sort of thing!!! Grammar is not my thing but, in this instance, I have the answers!!!!!!! (lol)

  • Rusty - Always useful to have a crib sheet!  Hope you enjoy your French excursion this afternoon - sounds fun, if rather hard work.  (There speaks someone who managed 'O' level French and a bit of conversational French when travelling ... )

  • ROSY  a very trying time for you, I do hope your OHs health improves.
