Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 9 February 2025

HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY FULL MOON!

The moon turns full on Wednesday, 12 February, in the UK/US. It"s the Snow Moon. I hope it will bring AQ some cooler temps.

It's still winter here with snow and ice storms predicted. Despite the weather, it's the breeding season for the coyotes.

The coyotes on my patch are the Northeastern Coyote subspecies. They have a lot of Canadian wolf DNA, and their howling during mating season is loud, long, and mournful. One night this past week, I put on my thick coat and sat on my front porch listening to the coyote mating song.

I hope everyone has the best week possible. Love and hugs to all.

  • Thank you Diane!  Stay as warm as you can.

  • DIANE - Cooler on Wednesday? Dream on. Adelaide's forecast max for Wed is 42 C. Please send snow & ice.

  • Thank you Diane. I actually like the idea of sitting on your porch listening to the critters. Obviously, a thick coat would be essential!!

AQ - I am sympathise with you over the heat. I would wilt I am sure. I don’t know how you cope.
Here we have a typical winters grey, dull and damp day. It’s about 3 degrees. My friend and I are not walking this morning. She had a very busy day yesterday. I will continue with the cleaning which I started yesterday morning.

  • Thank you, DIANE. I can just about picture you, sitting on the porch and listening to the wildlife. I wonder if you have a rocking chair ?!

AQ - as RUSTY says, I would wilt in that heat. Is there any breeze at all?

LYNETTE - wishing you well with the weight loss. It isn't easy, as you say.

I've just been telephone chatting with my son. Now that Sam has left to join the Navy, they have promoted the next child to Sam's bedroom. The youngest will move into her sister's room and the small bedroom will be converted into a sort of den, with a sofa bed for Sam when he is at home. I feel quite sad ....

  • DIANE  How nice that we all have a pic of you sitting on your porch listening to the wildlife in our minds.

  • The postal delivery (First Class) was very quick to deliver to GD so her mother was able to take the new pyjamas to her at the hospital yesterday.  We don’t know how long she has to stay there, presumably until she is off the morphine, and I guess she will then go back to her parents’ house rather than to her own.

DIANE – I know I promised an email and intend that I really will write before I get too busy with the magazine this week.  Lovely to read about you siting on the porch listening to the song of the Coyotes!  Sorry it is such a long winter for you.

RUSTY – a mostly grey and cloudy day again here, like yesterday, although the sun has now come through, so we could get a pleasant hour until sunset.  Birds have been less obvious today, maybe less desperate for food!

HEATHER – nice for the little girls that Sam’s departure is giving them space – but good that there will be a designated place for when he visits.

DIBNLIB – sorry that your brother tried yet again to deny his responsibility, but at least you now know when you will be required at the court to tell it how it really was!  Thinking of you.

We went to church this morning – I was on reading duty and my voice thankfully held up right through both Old and New Testament passages; it was a good service.  The town is full of roadworks – not mending the old ones but creating places which won’t be properly filled and will develop new potholes.

  • We certainly do, dibnlib! All in unison!

Another grey day here, which was warmer this morning but has now gone cold with a chilly wind.

I found a book I'd kept of knitting and crochet patterns from 1970!! It looks very old fashioned and even older than that. I shall give it to the charity shop and maybe a knitter might enjoy it.

AQ - I keep trying to pack up some frost & ice for you but it inexplicably disappears..... ..

Bonnie has been restless, as if she's uncomfortable or something. I do wish dogs could talk!

  • Ha.  I'd pick out Washington state, Oregon and Califo\rnia and renaame them Southwest Canada.
