Hi  - I just spent 10 minutes writing long reply to you all, then the whole screen froze & I had no option but to switch the whole contraption off - the air is now blue!

Good Monday morning.  Overnight snow, early rain, very slow thaw at about one degree!  Didn’t get our Boxing Day walk this year – just too cold.  Messed about all day. Son tried to teach us a game he has done with young people – said we were worse than them at being taught what to do!  OH has now gone on foot to get milk and veg – decided he couldn’t be bothered to shuffle the cars (because it was bad Friday night, son’s car is not tucked away in its usual corner but is parked on main driveway behind ours).  Son will eventually be doing some job searching online today.

Thanks for all posts yesterday, overnight and this morning – including photos. 

Re those socks – Son was wearing two pairs under his boots when he drove, so the ones on the floor were the extra pair which he took off soon after arrival!  We are gradually getting his washing done.  I think the theory re ironing is that it’s not worth ironing if it’s going back in a suitcase!

Pleased some UK folk are thawing – hope there are no burst pipes for anyone.  Diane – please take care in all that snow, and Gary too – and enjoy the plough (plow).  Margo – I hope you soon get to see your sister – the hugs and prayers continue.

Morning All.  Despite not going to bed late, I seem to be getting up later and later every day.  I'll have to get sorted out before going back to work on Wednesday...

Snow mostly gone overnight and it's raining.  Had a good walk yesterday, along the River Waver and out to the Solway.  It's easy to walk over all that boggy stuff when it's frozen, not sure if we can continue today as planned though, if it's defrosted.  Don't really need to go out except we are running out of sunflower hearts and the longtailed tits have arrived.  Like last year we are seeing buzzards quite low down, even sitting on hedges, looking for food.

Margobird:  What a wonderful birthday gift!  Is this your OH who comes up with all these brilliant ideas?  I discovered the calming effects of mimosas quite a few Christmases ago!   Hope you can find something to occupy your mind while you wait for news of your sister.  Amazing how children can bring a smile even in hard times; so glad you enjoyed Rhys; I bet Billy Whizz will start putting on weight with all the goodies you're leaving out for him. Have a wonderful time at the Magic Circle!

OG: When my grandson did his ironing, he hung his shirts on hangars and took them home that way, not crammed into his overnight bag.

TerryM: When I was working, I used to get up at 5:30 to get to the gym (right up the road) before work (would never get there if I didn't go first thing).  When I retired, I spent a couple of years being disorganized in the mornings, but now find I like to be up and moving around 7 or the whole day sort of drifts by with not much being accomplished....

Gary:  You mean that's not you behind the wheel? When do you get to play with your blower?

Off to get ready to collect Lightning from spa, where she stayed over Christmas since huge floppy Oro was bounding around the house. I'm sure she'll be quite put out and will creep about sniffing suspiciously.  Daughter and g-daughter down again tonight before the latter leaves in the a.m.  Then truly back to "normal."  Take care all.

Phoebe is busy with her nest. you can even see the tiny spiders webs she uses. Amazing.

Just watched Wallander  with Rolf Lasgaard playing Kurt after recording it on BBC4 last night. It is in Swedish with subtitles but excellent none the less.

Hi All thanks for the get well wishes feeling a lot better apart from a nasty cough that i can't get rid of keeping myself and OH awake at night with also now managing to eat a bit but not a lot as i don't seem to have that much of an appetite at the moment but a little is better than nothing, margobird sorry i missed your birthday happy birthday for yesterday

Afternoon all hope everyone has got over the over indulgence we all seem to do during this time. The thaw seems to have started here as it has been raining nearly all day but the water doesn't seem to be getting away as the ground is still frozen and the ice still at the side of the road is covering the gratings. GARY hope you are managing to survive the snow that is causing havoc along the eastern seaboard. MARGOBIRD hope you enjoy your trip to see the magic show as it will keep your mind off the problems that you are having at the moment.

To everyone else I hope you all manage to keep warm/dry/ cool  during the coming days 

Hi, all. I slept late and have just watched the morning news. Thought I'd better stop in here and make sure Gary is okay; glad to see that he is. That storm in the northeast is truly wicked!

Sheila: I would love to see your badgers. They are such interesting creatures. They have such inner strength and power; I admire them. Like you, I also enjoy identifying all of the animal tracks. One set of deer tracks is really big, so there must be at least one sizeable buck in the herd. I heard coyotes on the ridge above my land last night, but I haven't seen the tracks near the house. They have such a lonesome sound. I have a whole garden full of squirrels today. They're digging up their caches of stored walnuts.

AQ: I forgot to say that I loved the famly photo you posted. Lovely! That's what it's all about!

Annette: I hope Lightening is willing to forgive and forget. Hope you have a nice visit this evening before granddaughter departs. Have you ever seen the bobcats that are reported to be in your area? I noticed that you mentioned them.

Lindy: I think computers freeze up deliberately to amuse themselves and to demonstrate their superiority. :-) I would have turned the air blue, too. I loved the Monday smiles.

Terry: Sounds like you needed the rest. Sleep late and enjoy your time off.

OG: Hope your husband's expedition on foot (for groceries) was uneventful. I wish your son great success in finding a good job.

Margo:  Rhys sounds delightful. I hope you get to see your sister soon.
Alan: Good to see the ospreys! It won't be long now before EJ's return -- only a couple of months really.
