HAPPY NEW WEEK!

I just returned from Indianapolis. I stayed a couple of extra days to care for the dogs. My friends became ill on their last day of the trip, and were sick and feverish when their plane landed. Testing doesn't yet show Covid, but that's what the symptoms indicate.

I had an interesting experience at their house early this morning. I was sitting on their couch putting on make-up. Suddenly, I heard a LOUD bang against the large window behind me. I jumped at the sound. I looked to see a very large female red-tailed hawk sitting on the deck next to the window. She was only about 3 feet from me, and she looked me right in the eyes. I watched to make sure she recovered, and she seemed to be fine as she flew away. She must have been chasing prey and didn't see the glass. I'm glad she was okay. She was such a beautiful, majestic bird.

I've been REALLY busy with the dogs, and haven't been online. The little English setter is 18 years old and not in good health. I'm going back now and catch up on your news.

Everyone have a good week!

  • What a shame LINDY  these people have no thought for others.

just to let you know that my friend was in extreme pain for her first three days home but thankfully it is easing off now.

  • Thanks DIBNLIB for the news about Erica. Let us hope that all will be upwards progress now. She is a very brave and determined lady .

LINDY - That's awful about your OH s  shed and all the others as well. My dear old boy would be the same as your OH - he wouldn't have left anything valuable in the shed.

Our friends have left this morning because of the pretty dire weather conditions forecast for tomorrow. Their ferry back home ( actually to Amsterdam) is not until Tuesday, so they have a few days to play with in the North of England.

I'm tired after a few late nights. My eldest is coming here with shopping this afternoon. I have a lot of stuff in the fridge that I will pass on to her !

  • Heather - I think having visitors, however lovely it is, is exhausting! You can have a rest now.

Lindy - that is awful about the allotments. What a shock. Some people are just horrible.
Dibnlib - as Heather said, your friend is very brave. I hope this operation works and that it makes her life easier.

I am continuing with my Christmas card writing in amongst doing the cleaning. The snow is gradually melting. I hope that, after the impending storm, I will be able to get back out and about again! I have a lot planned for next week!!!!

  • Yes, thoughts are with AQ now as the time difference means we can't all be with her at the right hour of the day.  I'm sure she'll be very tired afterwards.

Heather, visitors are exciting these days, for us, but we are exhausted after they're gone. Good idea to give your surplus food away - is there anything you can freeze for later??

Dibnlib:  Glad  Erica has the worst over, although it was painful. Fingers crossed for a good outcome.

We've had thunder & lightning today and sleet!! It's not a great forecast for the weekend, with slight rises in the temps but storms and wind!! Grr.... it looked so treacherous out this morning we decided not to go on an outing for various bits  & bobs, so I did yet more ironing instead.

  • Yes, LINDY - it is now 3.30 am on Saturday in Adelaide so if I'm right, the funeral will be over and I hope that AQ will be asleep. Apologies if my old brain has got it wrong, AQ...

  • ROSY, LINDA & HEATHER - Thank you for thinking of me. Yes, I was asleep at 3.30 am but it was restless night, too hot to sleep, min temp 24 C. I floated through the funeral on autopilot. Both Daus in tears. I feel relief.

DIBNLIB – Early days with recovery but good news that your friend is home.

LINDA – I have often wondered about vandals and allotments. We have idiots who damage or destroy plants in parks & front gardens. I guess they would find sheds on allotments great “fun”.

  • Update on the emperor penguin that reached Aussieland.

  • Thanks for the update on 'Gus' , AQ!

  • AQ - you got through the funeral thankfully with the sense of relief. Understandable that your daughters were upset. I hope you can relax now. Everything seemed to happen very quickly in the end.
I wish you could send some of your heat over here. The snow is going but today it is cold, dark and very wet. Fortunately, I don’t have to go out.
I enjoyed the update on Gus. I do hope he makes it back to Antarctica.

  • We shall never know Gus' future as they did not fit a tracker. I guess expense outweighs curiosity.
