RESUMÉ FOR MAY 2024
The new couple’s relationship has continued to grow. They have worked hard together to maintain and strengthen their nest, bringing in new materials daily. Both birds have been catching fish and sharing these with each other. They have also shared incubation and developed strategies to get each other off the eggs when needed! They have also defended their nest from intruders, the most traumatic being when Blue 432, Eshells, a 3 year old returner from Kielder visited on the 9th of May.. Blue 372 fought hard to keep her place on the nest as she was continually chased and dive bombed in Blue 432’s bid to oust her. The eggs were left unattended for around 3 1/2 hours. Luckily it was a warm evening so hopefully no damage done. The most exciting visit came from dear KA9 (22), Gelert, son of LJ2 and LM6 when he arrived on the morning of the 25th of May. It was a short visit as he was soon ushered away by LJ2.
You’re very welcome Karen. Yes it was a heart in mouth moment but thankfully had a happy outcome.
Chick seems to be doing fine.
18.35 LJ2 came and took away the remaining fish.
18.36 Hope he brings some back.
19.25 372 took a break leaving little bob home alone.
19.26 She ended up chasing a crow before returning to the nest a minute later.

20.21 LJ2 brought the fish back
372 collected it
20.23 She was still hungry. She hardly had anything to eat yesterday as she didn’t want to leave the eggs.
20.26 Little bob was begging for food and 372 was pausing to offer small pieces but she was standing too far away.
20.28 Her inexperience was showing but I’m sure she’ll work it out.
20.29 So unfortunately little Bob didn’t get anything this time.
20.34
21.44 LJ2 came and collected the fish.
I’ve just checked Brenig FB and seemingly a drone was being flown around the area today and they think that may be what spooked 372 when she twice left the nest. How thoughtless is that plus disturbance of nesting birds is an offence.
Well if that was the reason for the disturbance, I'm pleased the police were enforcing the law that protects these wonderful birds!

Glider said:14.16 Oh no!! She’s got alarmed and flown off sounding the danger call, like the human intruder call.
Glider said:because she left at such speed, little bob got caught and whipped off to the side of the nest.
In mid-air!

Such a relief to see that the chick managed to tumble & crawl it's way back to safety ... many thanks for footage Glider
