2023 return dates: NC0(16) - 17.3.23 (07:43) Laddie (LM12) - 17.3.23 (13:43)
Well, what an end the 2023 season turned out to be! Who can forget the battle for the nest between both juveniles, PF4(F) & PF5(M), and then to see the total domination and aggression by the eldest when 'owning' the nest, not only to her sibling but also to dear Laddie when he provided her with fish. The season synopsis can be read in the final LotL Osprey Diary here. Did NC0 leave early to undertake her southerly migration on the 15th July, or could there have been another reason for her not to be seen on the webcam or around the reserve?
We wait in anticipation for Laddie and NC0's safe return to Loch of the Lowes. Let us very much hope for a 'fraught-free' 2024 season...

FISH! 16:33
Laddie zoomed past the back of the nest (from right to left) prior to arriving for the delivery
The headless fish was safely collected by NC0
Off she went with her long-awaited meal
She headed to the birch, I lost sight of her at the area marked yellow
Well done, Laddie!

Another double post! I clicked on the reply button but it showed my original fish delivery report (as if it was going to be edited). I had no option but to press reply again for fear of losing my original post. Sorry.
16:37 Laddie nestcupping
And again
18:38 NC0 arrived back to the nest with the remainder of her fish in her right talons
Laddie flew past behind the nest (from left to right) before coming round to land
Laddie noticed the fish
NC0 flapped at him for getting too close
She changed her position
That didn't deter him and went to take the fish from her
NC0 won that round!
Another attempt but he got a peck on the head from NC0
That still didn't deter Laddie as, once again, he tried to take the fish
NC0 had a strong grip on her meal and pulled her leg back towards her making Laddie stumble a little bit
It was only when he approached her again, that NC0 decide to take her fish off the nest
She landed on the birch
After NC0 had left, Laddie kept himself occupied by doing a spot of nestorising
Nestcupping
More stick work
Taking a break
Then flew off to head to the birch at 18:47, a trail of grasses caught in his talons
19:10 NC0 upper, Laddie on the lower branch he had landed on

From about 23 minutes or so...
The male (our Laddie) hadn't brought a fish for 2 days! Did anyone catch what year it was? Cos he had a problem last season, didn't he? And it looks as tho it was filmed after the surrounding trees were "pruned".
Thank you, SANDRA! I'm just going to look for the fish theft attempts.
IMAGICAT
.
Laddie's attempted fish theft, described and snapped by SANDRA above. Just an unembellished clip:
After that Laddie nestorised a bit and then flew to the birch - neither of them seen again before dark.
