Weekly Chat, Sunday December 19, 2010

Hallo all. Hasn't stopped raining here all day - two more days of it - BUT the weather in the UK has been making headlines on the radio and telly!  Will catch up with chat later.

  • Afternoon, Everyone.   I've been out and about, visiting our old neighbour with a Christmassy Plant Arrangement, and collecting our turkey.  Its blink*^!*ing freezing here, so very cold even when you are well wrapped up.

No time to write individually, but Thanks to those who have posted such clever and lovely Christmas cards on here, and for all the lovely photos.

Thinking of you waiting today for news of your sister, margo.

Hope your central heating keeps going, george, its no time to be without it!

Will come on again later, with my version of '12 Days of Christmas' which coincidentally, I wrote a month ago!

  • p.s.  Annette:   Thinking of you all in sunny California - it was an item on our World News last night about the huge amount of rain you've been having, and the floods and buildings being washed away!  Hope you are just a bit soggy, where you are....

  • Here I am back again.  Annette:  thanks for the link to the YouTube version of the Nativity, as you say, very clever.  Someone must have burnt the midnight oil to work so hard on that!

What follows is my Christmas Card to you All, as I can't do clever things with graphics!  Hope you enjoy.....

  • Just to let all know there are more cams up and running on the this site, forest cam, 2 eagle cams and wild bird feeder.

Am trying to take my mind off things but hoping to hear about my sister soon so have been spending time watching EJ, Odin and family from this year.

  • AN OSPREY IN A TALL TREE

On the 1st day of Christmas, I spied up in a tree
An empty osprey nest just waiting for me.....
On the 2nd day of Christmas, it cheered me then to see
Two cheerful Osprey sitting there, quite free.
On the 3rd day of Christmas, they looked as if they knew
The camera was watching them, too.
On the 4th day of Christmas, it pleased me then to see
An egg was in the nest upon the tree.

    On the 5th day of Christmas, I heard 5 Capercaillie   s i n g  ..... !!

On the 6th day of Christmas, a third egg there was laid
Even in deep snow, & light starting to fade.
On the 7th day of Christmas, the Mother Osprey fed
The first chick as he lay in his deep bed.
On the 8th day of Christmas, the eggs were all hatched out
And all the little GEM's began to shout!!
On the 9th day of Christmas, the Father Osprey said
"I don't know how I'm going to keep them fed!"
On the 10th day of Christmas, the chicks were stuffed with fish
and the Chaffinch sang about their fishy wish!
On the 11th day of Christmas, the Ospreys said  "We've found"
"That at Christmastime we shouldn't be around..."

On the 12th day of Christmas, they announced:  "It's quite a shock   - "
"We've got it wrong  -  we lost the link to Tiger's Countdown Clock!!"

(Later on, at Christmastime, the chicks wer'nt cold a bit -
They wore the scarves and mufflers which AQ said she'd knit...)

  • Wonderful Lindybird

  • Thanks, margo.  Hope you get some news soon.

  • Will catch up later but just took these at LOtL and Abernethy. There must have been a dozen or so bluetits etc on the Abernethy feeder.  Off to get some of the veg prepared for CD, saves me doing it tomorrow instead.

  • Morning all and thanks everyone for pix and cards - such fat little birds.  Thanks all, we had masses of rain, but just soggy here - although have noticed that ants were trying to take over various parts of the house.  :-(  Looks like we'll have clouds/sun for next couple of days with much less rain due the weekend.

Margobird: Do hope you get some encouragement from sister's doctors. Will you leave immediately to see her once the weather clears? What happens to your Christmas plans?  Do wish we could make things better....

AQ: We're eating Christmas Dinner on Christmas Eve; I plan to do some "cheating" too, especially since we'll be picking up granddaughter at (local) airport at 3)  Plan to have a stiff mimosa (LOL) when we all walk back in the door before it gets hectic in the kitchen.  Will lay the table today....

George: Do hope boiler people show up - not something you need to be worrying about over a long weekend.

Off to make list of last minute shopping needs, then out the door. Take care all

  • Sorry I just pop in occasionally, I read qiute bit, but not all of the posts.

Had a day out yesterday and see that many of the lakes are completely frozen over - not Windermere of course. Here is a pic from Bowness Bay today

Here is Bassethwaite looking across it to Dodd Wood where the osprey nest is situated. No fishing possible around there for a while !!
