Weekly Chat, Sunday December 19, 2010

Hallo all. Hasn't stopped raining here all day - two more days of it - BUT the weather in the UK has been making headlines on the radio and telly!  Will catch up with chat later.

That is a wonderful photo of Mrs Rufus Black taken in the light of the setting sun.

  • Good morning Lindybird and lovely pictures of sunrise.  We are not seeing much sun of late, it looked as though it was going to come earlier but has now gone cloudy again.  Still absolutely freezing outside, and a very chilly wind blowing today.  Really have to brace myself when I go out to see to my birds and it takes me about an hour to get warm again.

My sister has an appointment with the consultant today so I am feeling rather on edge at the moment.  Hoping and praying that something can be done to help.  I am still finding it so hard to take in and she is in my mind constantly as are her family.

I am so lucky to have such a wonderful OH.  He was up at 5 this morning to drive to Salisbury to pick the turkey, gammon and stilton cheese up.  About an hour's drive each way.  We have been getting our turkey etc from a farm shop for the past 3 years and it is always good.   He is now on his way to Orpington to see his Mum, take the family presents up and take Mum to lunch at a nice Italian restuarant near to her home.  He will get back about 7 tonight so he is going to be whacked.   He is one of the kindest people I know, nothing is too much trouble.

He still has to park his car at the top of our hill as it is just sheet ice all the way down.  Due to this we have had not bin collections at all and won't have until the New Year.  Trouble is there is always more rubbish at Christmas so our greenhouse will be loaded up with bin bags once again.  Had the same trouble earlier this year when we had snow.  Apparently Poole is the only borough that is not getting bin collections and it is causing a bit of an outcry according to the local paper.

One of my work friends was supposed to be visiting me tomorrow but have said it is not safe to drive down our road.  We will catch up hopefully after Christmas.

Billy Whizz has been round for breakfast together with a neighbour's cat who likes to come and eat here.  We call her Jess and she ususally turns up when I am sorting out my birds.  Almost like comes to keep me company.

Some very interesting footprints in the snow.  Looks like we have a couple of foxes who come in the night and of course several cats.  We keep saying we will put a camera up so we can see just what goes on in our garden overnight.

OH has just phoned to say he is nearly at Waterloo but is absolutely frozen.  The so called heating is blowing out cold air.  Just has to get on another train to Orpington now and those trains are always warmer.  As he says he has paid £52 to sit on a freezing cold train.  When we both go we always go on a coach as they are always warm but for quickness today he is on the train.   Of course coaches are much cheapter too.

Hope you are all staying safe and warm.

  • Good morning dibnlib and thankyou so much for your very kind message on my profile page.  It means such a lot to me to know that I am surrounded by hugs and such kind thoughts from all the wonderful friends on this site.  It does help a lot, words alone cannot express how much I appreciate the support I am getting.  I will do as you have suggested and get what you have recommended.  I find nights very hard as my brain is just not shutting down at the moment.

  • Morning all ... did an early morning shopping trip to ASDA today. I was surprised how much snow is still lying on the main road ... our estate roads are always the last to clear, but the others are usually ok. We are forecast another big dump of snow this evening :-((

margobird - more big hugs today ... thinking of you and all your family with the consultant visit today.

Lynette - lovely Christmas card - thanks!

Annette - have been hearing about the awful weather in California - hope you are ok.

OG & Eagle Eye - thank you for the lovely card and wishes!

Thanks to everyone else for chat etc

Take care ... and safe journey to anyone travelling around.

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

  • Good morning just catching up with the chat and the spectacular sunrise and sunset pictures. I would also say that the cards are very nice but I haven't yet mastered how to do that.  At the moment I am having boiler problems as I have a leak coming from the bottom of my boiler and am coping using towels and a bucket . I have phoned n- power who I have my central heating care with but they don't seem to be very efficient  as I phoned yesterday at 4pm and they said somebody  would phone me back  I have phoned twice since then and I still have't had anybody phone me yet. Luckily the boiler is still working ok and I have heating and hot water but to wait all this time for a phone call doesn't bod well.

The sun is shining here this morning and I was hoping to get out but I am stuck waiting for this phone call.

For all those travelling take care and for the rest keep warm
