Continued from Manton Bay - July 2023
Details about the Manton Bay nest can be found on the season’s opening post.
The season so far: Blue 33(11) returned March 16 @ 12:58 and Maya on March 19 @ 06:54. Maya has laid four eggs - Apr 4 @ 15:52, April 7 @ 09:04, April 10 @ 07:03 and April 13 @ 08:08. 38 days later on May 12 @ 08:18 the first chick hatched followed by chick #2 on May 14 @ 06:36 and chick #3 was first seen @ 05:45 on May 17. Chick #4 hatched on May 18 @ 18:53 and not long after a live fish was delivered to the nest causing havoc and the little chick died the following morning. On June 24, the chicks were ringed – Blue 3H3(F), Blue 3H4(M) and Blue 3H5(F) and their vitals can found here. On 3 July @ 09:24 Blue 3H3 fledged followed by Blue 3H5 on 6 July @ 10:23 and Blue 3H4 on 9 July @ 06:12.

And now the month has come when one by one the chicks, who have been spending their days strengthening their wings and practicing their flying skills readying themselves for the epic journey that lies ahead, will set off south. But they are well prepared having had the best possible start in life under the care and protection of their fantastic parents, Maya and Blue 33(11). But until that day comes, let’s enjoy their time with us.
KA6 may have been one of Delyth's last chicks, but I'm not sure.
Yes she was one of Delyth's last clutch in 2019. Her brother KA7 has been seen in Wales in previous years. The other chick in the clutch KA8 disappeared from the nest before fledging - it is believed as a result of goshawk predation. This was before the last year before there was a camera at Clywedog.
17:42 3H3 and 3H4 on the nest waiting as 33 arrives for a large fish quickly taken by 3H4
And Hello LAM Thanks for all the reports - hope you are having a fantastic visit. About 3H5, I have been ever hopeful of seeing her return to the nest as I just think her setting off is a bit quick. But it is possible and if so, hopefully she is safe and we see her back in a couple of years. Sheila, thanks for the report about 2AM's offspring 5H9 - great news!
Hello Karen at very long last we managed a visit..... Rain has stopped play for all on the spot reports this year as the two oaps weren't up to camping in the thunderstorms :-)
Saw the forecast for weekend and legged it to MB sharpish!
Here is a pic which may be of interest as it's from Egleton reserve so nest is other way round! We headed off there before departing for home and saw an osprey who we believe was 33 fishing in lagoon 1 as he headed off back towards MB empty taloned at that point but good display! Thank you had great day missed it so much! You can get better perspective of how far into the bay the nest actually is!
Morning ALL
3H3 and 3H4 on the nest just now waiting on breakfish
Reminder of their ages - Today: 3H3 is 93 days old
3H4 is 91 days old
& 3H5 is 88 days old (last seen 4 Aug at 79 days old)
08:16 Fish - 33 approached with a large fish
3H3 takes the fish
3H3 with her fish
3H3 tucks in as 3H4 waits his turn
33 brought a small fish earlier, Maya took it for herself and left the nest with it. Guess she needs to build up for her big voyage too, although she didn't get much from 33 yesterday (at least on cam)
And 3H3 joined by a gull at the moment. She doesn't seem bothered by it and continues eating..Cheeky gull too
3H4's turn now.. was a big faster than Maya to take the fish after 3H3 left
