LOCH GARTEN - END FEBRUARY 2024

Link to July 2023 thread

July proved to be a less nail-biting month than June. Brodie re-appeared early on the 1st and delivered fish (including flounder) to the nest every day bar 1 thereafter, with a record count of 7 on the 21st. Asha also fished and delivered a salmon on the 3rd, as well as quite a few sticks, not least one to replace the sticky-up stick on the nest that got removed on ringing day - 12th July. We have 2 boys, as only 7% of those surveyed had predicted. 2C5 (oldest) became Sid (Vicious) and 2C4 (youngest) is Harry (Nilsson). We had some cracking snaps particularly from the PTZ camera, a 2am fish, self-feeding started, and wing-flapping and helicoptering. Bets are on for a fledge or two very early in August. Sid is 58 days and Harry 56 days on the 1st of August

  • Thank you Trevor, once more, for spotting KL5, and thank you Scylla for the the vid. He is really quite a fine looking osprey. It interesting how often he has returned to the nest territory recently. Is he just ensuring the boys and Brodie have left. Is he imprinting the nest, getting ready for next year's return. I have also noticed he hasn't brought a fish to the nest, and prefers to land on a branch rather than the nest. I know he has been there, tidying up, but not for a while.

Klive is a good suggestion, but I like Kyle too!

I thought Chaffies were your favourite!

I'm packing up now - it's been a long night of trawling thru yesterday's cams, I'm plum tuckered out.

  • If we must, Kyle, which is absolutely fine Sheila,  but I just DON'T want this chap to hang round the nest and most probably see Brodie off next year maybe with injuries.

  • It looks like Brodie? Why is it that we never see Brodie and KL5 at the same time???

Yes, but Klive is so kinda clever, CIRRUS, and I'm gutted I didn't think of it myself - K L (F) I V E - Fergus is not just a pretty face. Dang dang dang Grin

I expect I'm making a further fool of myself, thnking anyone needs explanation - but you know me, I got no pride Stuck out tongue winking eye

TREVOR - are your photos hosted online anywhere?  If not, you must dedicate the off-season to uploading them daily in batches, I insist, and then sharing the link !!!  LIMPY and WENDY are two of us who've done so, on flickr**LINK BOCKED**, I think.

Believe it or not, I recognised the Green Woodpecker at the frist of your snaps, despite hardly ever having seen them on our cams (pat on the back for me).

    Cheeky or acceptable?

I haven't been thru the whole day so don't know why we got set on this view:

Then I had to break off and returned to the sight of an unringed Osprey - snap shows top of head and both feetz:

    Decided not to panic.

Re the unusual view mentioned above, I've been thru the PTZ day now and cannot see any reason for it.

The cams both went down earlier and recovered, now they're in buffer again.

We got a new opportunity to put the anti-Pine Marten "wrap" on the record - I couldn't find it in my video history the other day:

    Cams have recovered again.
