  • I am so saddened to read this news, I have been wondering how things were with him, as it has been sometime time since he last posted. A great supporter to the forum, always willing to help others with their questions. RIP Mike. Condolences to his wife and family.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • I remember him from the LG and LOTL threads. RIP
  • Really sorry to hear about Mike's passing. I greatly enjoyed his interesting comments. Always a sad day when an Osprey enthusiast leaves us. Now Mike will be able to follow his beloved Ospreys from a wonderful vantage point. Thinking of his family and friends, and of all of you who knew him well.
  • Thank you Fergus for passing on this so sad news. It must have been difficult for you.
Mike has been a huge part of the osprey family here on the Forum for over ten years, and very much the head of the family, passing on his wonderful knowledge, sorting out our technical problems, speaking on our behalf to the various osprey projects to advise them of problems from our end, posting very regularly on all threads, and just one lovely man.
He and I had many a long telephone conversation. I was delighted to be able to meet him at Rutland when we surprised Patily who had arrange to be there with her carers. Mike got in touch with Paul Stammers (a staff member who used to work wwith Tim Mackrill) to let him know of Patily's plans and explained her mobility restrictions. Paul laid on a vehicle to get her to the main hide, where Mike and I appeared. Paul had also laid on a picnic. Patily had a wonderful time, all down to the kind thoughts of Mike.
Mike has been, and will be very sorely missed. My love and thoughts to Sylvia and to Mike's daughter, Susie, at this very sad time.

  • This is very sad news, and something I had feared for some time. Condolences to his family. Unfortunately, I never met Mike but he has been very helpful to me over the years with the occasional private message. His long knowledge of and acquaintance with Ospreys from the start of the translocation of Ospreys to Rutland Water have been invaluable for many of us who came to Ospreys more recently than he did. I am envious of those of you who have actually met him! But I very much enjoyed reading about and seeing the photos of the lovely surprise he organised for Patily when she finally manged to visit the Manton Bay nest--thanks to those of you who helped with that. RIP Mike.

    Kind regards, Ann

  • As we all say, sad at the passing of another long standing, always helpful contributor,

Mike would always help anyone and everyone .Have had many a long chat, off Forum.

R.I.P and prayers for Sylvia and daughter.

  • So sorry to read this news. I was on!y thinking about him the other day, that he hadn't posted for some time, and wondering.
He will be very sadly missed by all forum members, and his thoughtful acts.
RIP Mike, and sincere condolences to his family and friends.
  • I never met Mike in person, but I know he lived quite close to me. In several PMs he introduced me to bird-watching opportunities I would never have found without his instructions. And he often reminded me of when ospreys, on their way to and from their breeding grounds further north, might visit local reservoirs. He was wise and kind, had a bottomless amount of information stored away, and wanted everyone else to enjoy osprey-watching as much as he did. He will be sadly missed. Rest in peace, Mike, and fly free. Thoughts and prayers with Sylvia and Susie.
  • This post made me cry but thank you for it Sheila  - I am so grateful Patily had such a wonderful visit  and, of course Mike played a huge part in this  surprise for Patiy -  it was so like him to care so much and  organize the event. I shall miss them both so very much

  • Saddened to read this and indeed Patily too!
His knowledge and expertise will be sorely missed on the forum and a big thank you to him for all his valuable information and help on our shared interest of Ospreys! May he rest in peace now with them. Sincere condolences to his family.
