I have not followed this nest until now but presume that the pair this year has been the same pairing since 2014. As the female has a ring she can be readily identified as HKO, but the male being infringed has just been referred to as "he". Would it be possible, for the sake of clarity on this posting, to give him a name. If so I suggest Urma, which is a unisex name, and means appropriately enough among other things, Problem Avoider!

Hi Nellie, yes I think a name for the “he” would be a good idea since he’s so well established here. Urma is fine by me. Anybody else have thoughts on this?

  • I won't be powering up my laptop until tomorrow, but I thing the pair were named by the local school. It might have been last year or the year before when they first had the cam. I can't remember what the names were,

  • Perth Gazette 5 September last year! Thank you Google!

The resident ospreys are called Harry and Flora, with the three chicks called Rowan, Holly and Bonnie named by a local school in Alyth. All pupils were also given their own osprey soft toy as a thank you from the teams for getting involved and for showing such enthusiasm about the ospreys.

Thanks for the videos Scylla. I see the plastic sheeting is still there today.
  • Some of today’s moments

HK0/Flora on the nest this morning.

     Successful mating

     I just liked this composition

     Hello!

     The great balancing act!
     Fish delivery

Just teasing, not getting it this time!

Take 2 - Fish delivery - now that I can see it, it looks like another greyling

HK0/Flora makes sure she gets it quickly this time

Harry then has to defend the nest

     He’s chipping loudly

     Another successful mating

Thanks, Glider - love 'the great balancing act' pic!
  • Wonderfully done, Glider! I really don't like the plastic sheets on the nest. Perhaps it is wrapping around the rolled silage bales

  • You’re very welcome Sandra and Sheila. I find this such an entertaining nest!

Yes, that seems likely Sheila, which means there will be an ever present supply of back plastic.

HK0/Flora doesn’t ask for it so Harry takes it away. He returns about 20 minutes later.

HK0/Flora wants it this time. It’s more of a tail end now! Off she goes with her breakfast.
