RUTLAND OSPREY PROJECT - 2023

Continued from Rutland Osprey Project 2022

c) Rutland Osprey Project - 03(97) aka Mr Rutland

Here's wishing all the usual Rutland ospreys a safe journey home and hopefully we'll see a few returnees too.

  • Such a stunning Osprey! Thanks for setting up the new thread, Karen :)
  • Thanks Sandra.

As I've already posted, I've issues with the mods when setting up links to previous threads and it is something I have always done on the OP of this thread but I think this iconic capture of the "father of them all" is a great substitute for links to the history of all the previous years :-)
  • In reply to Karen:

Totally agree, Karen, and very fitting it is too!

  • Thanks for the new thread, Karen, and yes, 03(97) was a fabulous Osprey. And we must remember that he had help from his partners in kick-starting the Osprey population of England and Wales; what happens in Ireland has not yet to be seen. Looking at the ukospreys website, it seems that 03(97) had at least three partners, the first and the last were unringed and from 2003 through the 2008 season his partner was Green 05(00), a magnificent Osprey in her own right. Sadly, I was not following Ospreys then so never saw her, but she mothered many strong Ospreys--see the Rutland Ospreys link on that website. She may be the bird referred to by Tiger as The Norwegian. (If any of that is incorrect, please post the correct information--thanks!)

    Kind regards, Ann

Who’s this pretty bird then? Blue 25? Rutland 2010 (F)

  • In reply to Glider:

Looking back at Blue 25’s visit today, I noticed there was a flyby from a red kite.

  • Well spotted, Glider and thanks for the captures

I'm posting the clip in the Manton Bay thread, GLIDER!

(Glider, this thread is for the Rutland Osprey Project in totality, the Manton Bay thread is for Blue33 and Maya's nest cam.  We used to call the MB nest Rutland but then we got 2 threads and I've been confused ever since )

You’re welcome Karen and thanks Scylla, I got totally mixed up there with the two threads. Thanks for explaining, I should’ve remembered!
