13.40, an Osprey flies from the trees past the nest with a stick.
Seconds later it lands on the nest and reveals itself as LJ2.
He picks up the stick in his beak and lays it down at the top of the nest.
He did a wee bit of housekeeping then flew off back into the trees.
15.15 Gelert arrives on the nest fish calling.
Seconds later LJ2 arrives with a small live fish.
Seconds later, here she comes - Olwen in full flight.
Gelert collected the fish from dad
then Olwen took it from her brother. He’ll have to get used to this being a male. Hopefully he’ll be feeding his own family one day in a few years time.
With the fish hers now, Olwen had a nice wee meal to herself. Gelert stayed, reminding Olwen he was there!
And down goes the tail.
Llyn Brenig Facebook posted this information earlier for anyone hoping to visit and see the ospreys.
Despite the chicks coming to the nest fish calling on and off for the last few hours, it wasn’t until Gelert arrived at just before 21.00 when LJ2 finally came in just after with another small live fish - pike.
A clear shot of the fish but layered effect on LJ2
Olwen had arrived at this point too, both chicks were shouting for the fish but Gelert took it.
Olwen still shouting how hungry she is as Gelert eats.
Olwen tackles a scrappy piece of skin dropped but eventually moves in for the fish, which she manages to take.
Olwen finishes it off and Gelert finds a scrap or two.Hopefully, there’ll be more fish supplied tomorrow.
Thursday, 4th August
Good morning all. Quick scroll back this morning and no sign of LM6 yet. 05.30 LJ2 on perch with Gelert on the nest.
In reply to Karen:
09.24, Olwen is sitting relaxing on the nest. Incoming calls are heard and LJ2 arrives with a small fish.
Gelert promptly arrives too.
Olwen takes the fish
and eats it all.
09.55 And look who’s arrived on the nest!!!! LM6 ️️ You’re back! And with some size of a live fish for a happy Gelert who was resting there.
Gelert moves in for the fish
It is so big, he’s pulling with all his might!
Karen W said:Morning Glider & ALL Thanks for all the updates, hopefully LM6 turns up soon.
Thank you Karen. I was sooooo happy when I got in from work today and did my scroll back. There she was, a bit scrawny looking and needing a good feed, but holding onto a big fish to give away to her chicks. It’s amazing how fond you get of the birds after a short time watching. She has turned into such a superb first time mother. ️
