So, we now enter August knowing that we will only have the pleasure of watching this beautiful family all together for a limited number of weeks.
Both LP8 and LR0 have transformed into two strong, independent individuals. Their attentive parents have continued to provide for and nurture them and this, in turn, has given the juveniles a basis to continue their growth into full adulthood, wherever they decide to settle during the next couple of years.
Last season, NC0 began her southerly migration on the 22nd August; Laddie on the 25th (these dates were their last webcam sightings). We can only hope that all of the 2022 family have safe, unhindered journeys to warmer climes, aided by fair winds as well as an abundance of fish along the way, and that we will welcome Laddie and NC0 back to this stunning Loch of the Lowes location in the spring of 2023.

  • At 17:53ish, LR0 was on the perch staring at something below the nest

    He then flew directly downwards

At time of posting, LP8 is on the perch, calling for fish. LR0 has been doing the same on the cam post (I assume!)

  • Glider said:
So glad to see NC0 as well Sandra, they make you worry eh!

I love the several identical poses of NC0 and LP8 when there is an intruder around at 14.15.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

They certainly do, Glider. I always end up with more grey hairs at the end of each season! lol

LP8 was very much in tune with NC0 Grinning

  • Good grief, what a headless whopper from Laddie at 21:28. Apologies for the blurred evening captures, there was so much movement between the juvies to get the fish

Both dived in on Laddie's arrival

LR0, on the right, claimed it. LP8 dived in underneath

With LP8's haste to get the fish, LR0 stumbled to the edge of the nest

    LP8 picked up the fish

  • 22:22 LP8 still eating, LR0, on the left, waiting

There was an attempt from LR0 to get close to the fish at 22:23 but LP8 warned him off

  • 22:30 A successful steal from LR0, he had moved to the right side of the nest

LR0 took the fish to the back of the nest

LP8 stretched and flapped its wings

And, after looking around , LP8 left the nest at 22:34

  • 00:05 LR0 sleeping, the remainder of the fish under his right talons

  • Morning all,
LR0 woke up and began eating his breakfish at 3:30.

By 5:52, he had given up! LP8 had been waiting on the nest (after arriving at 5:15) and got its chance to eat after LR0 flew off - only the tail end of the fish was remaining.

LR0 headed behind the low area of the birch

LP8 had to shoo off a crow (who had dared to land on the perch) while eating its small breakfish

LP8 stayed on the nest to keep a crow away and, after flying off, came back to tell it to go away after finding the corvid pottering about

LP8 finally flew from the nest just before 6:30. It's been ENS since

  • 9:02 A small fish from NC0. LP8 had been on the cam post and flapped down before NC0 landed. LR0, who was on NC0's diving branch of the birch, took flight over the Loch - he did not come to the nest

  • At 9:12, while LP8 was attempting to swallow the fish tail, NC0 flapped down from the cam post with some grasses in her talons.

There was an unseen intruder and she mantled/alarm called.

When things were calm again, and, after some preening and a short period of rest, NC0 left the nest at 9:25

  • 10:08 LP8 has remained alone since NC0 flew off and is currently on the nest perch

Edit: 10:10 NC0 has arrived and both she and LP8 are fish calling
