Laddie (LM12) and NC0 have continued their excellent partnership from last season, not only with the incubation of their three beautiful eggs but also in defending the nest, and area, from intruding Ospreys.

During the middle of this month, all being well, we will witness three gorgeous chicks hatching and being lovingly cared for by their wonderful parents. Here’s hoping that fine weather, abundant deliveries of fish from Laddie, as well as NC0’s feeding skills, will see the little ones thrive.

Another busy morning on the nest thanks Sandra.

The Lowes has tweeted that PT4 has found a mate and a nest at Kielder.

She is bonding with Y1 (nest 8) whose mate didn’t return this year. There has been copulating and PT4 has been defending the nest from intruders! Too late for eggs this year but looking good for next year.(Kielder blog) Great news!

It's fantastic news, isn't it Glider! So pleased PT4 has settled with a mate and not causing a nuisance of herself as she did last season! lol

Here are a couple of pictures of her on the Lowes nest

  • Laddie is such a busy boy. If he’s not catching fish, he’s bringing more nesting material to the nest or just stopping by to say hello or retrieve/drop off a fish tail (And receive the next fish order Sandra lol) Oh and to defend the nest from intruders and do the odd spot of babysitting!!

  • Thanks for the PT4 photos Sandra. She is indeed a beautiful bird and a very determined one too, finally getting what she wanted and deserved.

I hope PT5 turns up somewhere too. Fingers crossed

  • There are lovely photos of PT4 on the Kielder website. I don’t know if I’m allowed to copy and paste them here?
  • Yes, that should be fine if they're in a 'public' domain and as long as you copyright them to Kielder :)

Edit: Are they the same ones Jaydee has posted on the Kielder thread? Here

  • Fish from Laddie at 16:29. He remained on the nest throughout the feed

It's raining so the chicks had a shorter feed than normal. NC0 was very speedy, and vocal too.

She stepped closer to the chicks to continue for any of them that wanted some more. #1 took another bite

NC0 covered them at 16:37 after the fish was all gone

    Laddie flew off at 16:41

I keep forgetting about the other nests’ threads! Yes Sandra, Jaydee has posted the whole blog from Kielder about nest 8, PT4 and Y1 looking gorgeous, especially the portrait photo of PT4.  Blush I didn’t follow any nests in 2019 but I am sooo happy for one of Laddie’s youngsters to have made it home and possibly to breed next year. Heart

  • Nice that Laddie stayed for the whole feed. I wonder if he’ll do some feeding himself at one point? NC0 wins the prize for Champion Speed Eater! First place
  • I don't think I've ever seen him feed a chick, Glider, not that I can recall anyway.
