HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY FULL MOON!

The Full Moon is Wednesday, 16 February.

Here's what happened to me on Thursday evening. I thought you all might enjoy the story.

My toaster oven is on my enclosed porch (the electricity is newer and stronger there). After dark in the evening, I walked out on the porch to make a grilled cheese sandwich ("cheese toastie") for my supper. Right after I turned on the light, I heard a long, slow howl outside the front door. It was a coyote! It only howled once, and then I heard it move through the snow. It must have been warning its mate and any young that are still with them. Coyotes mate in February here, so they're active right now. They pair for life. The howl was powerful!

Everyone have a safe and serene week!

  • OH came home from Tesco with a rather pretty small orchid (and it's pot matches others we have!) and a box of Lindor. May be for valentines day or because he burned my lunchtime croissant! And he should know I don't eat mine toasted anyway, I prefer them fresh.

Yesterday he couldn't wake me up - ended up eating breakfast when lunch was almost due. Better this morning.

J has a starting date as Casual Learning Assistant - last tuesday! They seem very disorganised and still can't spell his name correctly!

No more now - just going to get moved from study to lounge!

  • Hello everyone, thanks for news. Good to know that some OH's have not lost the romantic touch!

We spent an exciting morning in the local hospital. First, the fracture clinic for a follow up to OH's shoulder injury. Still painful and limited movement, but Doc still not sure what the cause is, so MRI scan ordered. He says this is for diagnosis, as at his age there is unlikely to be any treatment anyway. Not exactly encouraging news.
Then he had to have a Covid test for going in for an 'oscopy on Friday.

I spent a very satisfying afternoon removing some ancient ivy from a gatepost. I haven't finished yet as it is rather a tall gatepost. Apparently, it is ruining the brickwork. It has been there for years, but no-one has complained about it before.
I quite like ivy, but some residents do not like it at all. The gardeners obviously did not think it was a problem. I think is present in all old gardens, It pops up everywhere here, and is removed regularly (apart from the gatepost).
  • Rosy - I like ivy, but you do have to be careful with it, or it wants to take over the world!! It can damage brickwork by breaking up the mortar holding it together.

The steak was scrumptious, and after a slight hiccup where we got the veg cooked but then realised we'd have to stop operations to eat the melon, we enjoyed everything. Now rather erm.... sleepy after a whole bottle of wine between us.

Got a few things sorted out today, so ready to celebrate!

Annette, cruise is in May and we're off to admire the Norwegian Fjords. Can't wait.

  • Just a thought

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. (Dr Seuss)

  • Good Morning. The wind is howling a bit here already, with a bigger storm to come: very wet in the night and still raining now, as I'm sure it is over a lot of the UK.

For the dog lovers, here's Bonnie playing with her dog drying towel: she is still playful although no longer a puppy :-)

  • Good morning. Got up earlier today. Good long spell of sunshine right now - dire warnings for later! Have discovered gardeners didn't kill off all the snowdrops - some have pushed their way through- nice to see them.

ROSY - good to hear from you but sorry about OH and hospital - hope all results are good enough, from yesterday and on Friday.

LINDA - good that dinner turned out so well! Cute pic of Bonnie with her towel.
  • Well I'm here but seem to be brain dead today!
OG - Sorry about the croissant but good that you got chocs and a plant - also hope that J gets some work and they eventually learn how to spell his name !
ROSY - My neighbour thinks that ivy is lovely but it keeps growing through the fence into my garden. I hope that you will get some answers from the hospital -
LINDY - I can understand your disappointment regarding Sue and the cruise. But if she got terribly anxious on the ship it might spoil your enjoyment. Good to read that your meal was lovely!
AQ - I hope that your OH enjoyed his birthday meal, it sounded lovely. And as I understand it, he will be taken out to lunch as,well?
PAT You write very descriptive posts about your walks etc. It's always nice to read them !
HARELADY - not sure whether you have already been away for the weekend but hope is is/was good fun.
ANNETTE - at least you got flowers! My OH and I had a running joke about Valentine's Day. He did get me a card one year and I kept it and displayed it for year upon year :-)

I'm making plans for the Danish visitors. Looks as if we'll have a family get together on one of the days.

  • Good Lord. Where is everybody?

After very hot week, a very chilly morning with very gusty wind then, this afternoon, a sharp and sudden storm that roared over the hills behind us and had us all gaping at the heavens wondering what was going on.

Daughter is going home tomorrow; granddaughter wants to see how it goes for a week (she's off work) and there's a good chance I'll be going there next week....

    Take care everyone.
  • HEATHER – OH’s lunch cancelled. Dau phoned that Twins are close contacts of a positive covid - they only went back to classroom on Monday! Regulations allow them to continue to go to school until they have symptoms.

ANNETTE – Good news re your Dau but, oh dear, you are on call again. Safe journey.

We woke to showers this morn, about 3 mm. It saves us watering for another day. I have been pruning trillions of new shoots on my butternut pumpkin. It already has 2 decent sized butternuts growing and far too many small ones. OH casts his evil eye on them as he declares he dislikes pumpkin. Hah, nowadays most pieces in my casseroles are so small they become mush/gravy which he does not recognize. I shall give 2-3 to Dau.
