As the 2021 Osprey season at Loch of the Lowes enters its final stage, it is reassuring to know how very well LR1 and LR2 are faring in the build-up to their first migration. Laddie (LM12) and NC0 (who, it is thought, will soon start her long journey south) are continuing to provide for, and protect, these wonderful (and loud!), young juveniles. Last month, it was fantastic to see the confidence in both LR1 and LR2 when they took to the sky for the first time, as well as watching them practise their spectacular diving skills into the Loch - sights to behold! With only a short number of precious weeks that we have remaining viewing Laddie, NC0 and their family on the webcam, let us hope everything continues to go well.

  • 20:38 LR2 flew off towards the birch, LR1 passed him to come back onto the nest

    LR2 outbound

    LR1 inbound

She only stayed a couple of minutes before leaving

LR1 came back again at 20:57ish

    21:08

21:09 Flown and headed back to the lower part of the birch (not sure if she landed there or not though)

Really hoping that the juveniles have more fish delivered to them tomorrow Fingers crossed

  • Morning all,
No fish have been brought to the nest so far. LR2 has just flown from the perch, LR1 is on the nest - both have been fish calling
  • Laddie delivered a live fish at 7:50ish. LR1 attempted to grab it first but it flapped and LR2 took it. Laddie flew off and began to alarm call - both juveniles froze. LR2 then attempted to tuck in to the fish but when letting go, it flapped over the front edge of the nest...another one lost!

    Fish under LR2's talons

The fish could be heard clattering down

Both juveniles are still on the nest (shouting) at time of posting

  • Just after 11:30, LR2, who was alone on the nest, began to mantle and shout for a minute or two. No intruder seen.

    He'd calmed down

Both juveniles have been on and off the nest throughout the morning calling for fish. None have been delivered

LR2, at time of posting, is still present on the nest

Edit - he flew off, shouting, at 12:30

  • There have been 3 fish deliveries, all by Laddie, so far this afternoon. LR1 has had one, LR2 the other two.

13:04 LR2 was on the nest, LR1 made her way from the birch

LR1 approached the nest (bottom left)

She was too late to make a claim

13:53ish LR1 was on the nest to take this one

There was almost a collision between LR2 (bottom of highlighted box) as he flew to the nest and Laddie on his flight away

LR2 made an overhead 'attack' on LR1 and her fish and he flew off close to the cam

He came back round to land on the right side of the nest. LR1 guarded her fish then took it away

14:50 Both juveniles were on the nest

    LR2 (right) took it

    He took it off nest

  • Initially I was going to say both LRs on the nest, standing quietly,,,,,but then LR1 started shouting for fish Then she would stop to get her breath back and shout some more and so on and so forth
  • There was another delivery by Laddie 17:35ish. Once again, LR2 took it first

Indeed Wendy. The fish Laddie has brought were quite small so hoping that they (in particular LR1) get a more reasonably sized one soon

  • 18:40 Laddie with a 'live' fish. It was manic to collect it but LR1 managed to do so. There was some 'argy-bargy' between the siblings as well as LR1 forcing Laddie from the nest

Fish was flapping (centre of nest)

    LR1 managed to contain it

    Poor Laddie Disappointed

    She then started on LR2

She ate some of her fish on the front edge of the nest. LR2 fish calling

Then decided to take it off the nest. When opening her wings to leave, I think it made LR2 jump

He launched into the air at the same time

    And landed

LR1 flight away behind the nest (top right)
