3.9.21 - LR2 sighted in Southern Spain
25.10.21 - LR2 still in Southern Spain
As the 2021 Osprey season at Loch of the Lowes enters its final stage, it is reassuring to know how very well LR1 and LR2 are faring in the build-up to their first migration. Laddie (LM12) and NC0 (who, it is thought, will soon start her long journey south) are continuing to provide for, and protect, these wonderful (and loud!), young juveniles. Last month, it was fantastic to see the confidence in both LR1 and LR2 when they took to the sky for the first time, as well as watching them practise their spectacular diving skills into the Loch - sights to behold! With only a short number of precious weeks that we have remaining viewing Laddie, NC0 and their family on the webcam, let us hope everything continues to go well.
14:18 Fish, albeit a tiddler, from Laddie to LR1. There was a bit of toe pulling before she managed to grab it
In her beak
After broadcasting the fact that she had a meal, she took it off the nest

14:42ish LR1 to the nest, LR2 followed shortly after
A little before 15:00, there were close-by alarm calls, both left the nest
They've since arrived back - LR2 first (onto the perch) then LR1 joined him
15:09
15:28 Both went silent and did some synchronised sky watching
LR1 flew from the nest
As did LR2
15:30 LR2 arrived back to the nest a couple of minutes later, mantling and shouting. LR1 joined him screeching and no wonder - An UNRINGED INTRUDER LANDED!
Talons, top left
Top, centre
It flew off
15:52 The unringed intruder came back again and is, as I post, still on the perch. The noise coming from the juveniles is deafening!
Some random snaps of its visit
Preening
Back of head
More preening
16:19ish The unringed intruder (female?) was flapped off the back edge of the nest by a very feisty LR2. It flew off around and above the back of the nest (unseen) and past the left side
It continued to fly left then out of view
It then flew over the nest
The juveniles tracked it
Perhaps it came too close again? LR2 shouting
Both juvies screeching on the nest

I think there's an adult on the birch, Patily, 3rd branch from the left
Just after 18:50, Laddie delivered a live fish. Both juveniles were on the nest to vie for it - LR2 claimed it
He completed his meal and, after cleaning his beak, flew from the nest
19:40 LR1 on the nest quietly waiting
20:18 LR1 left the nest and landed low in the birch (red dot)
20:22 LR2 onto the perch
