GLASLYN OSPREYS - APRIL 2021 to end of FEB 2022

MrsG returned on the 25th of March and was joined by Aran on the 29th.

 (The beginning of the reunion video is a must-see for all fans of MrsG - I'm posting it today 01 June, to remind us of a happy time before the tragedies of May 2021.)

The month of May brought unrelenting wind, rain and corvids, as well as persistent intruder KS8 (among others) - and Aran somehow injured his right wing, rendering him unable to fish.  Within a few days all the chicks had sickened and died.  It could hardly have been more stressful for MrsG and Aran, but they are recovering together while the caring Glaslyn team is supplying fish each night.


(The chicks' bodies have been removed from the nest by Aran and MrsG, so we shall never know the cause of their deaths.)

    My thoughts were that it may be where a new Osprey platform was going to be built?

    Catlady, If by new 'Osprey platform' you mean a new nest platform, I seriously doubt they would build a nest platform at the visitor centre because the human activity at the centre would frighten off any Ospreys, and it would be too close to the current Glaslyn nest and certainly far too close to the Pont Croesor nest platform. Aran chased off all males who visited the Pont Croesor nest platform since it was erected until this year. Not sure why he chose not to try to chase Aeron/Z2 away from that nest platform--perhaps because Aeron and the translocated Poole Harbour female may have seemed to be a settled couple immediately--I might be completely wrong, of course--Lol! Furthermore, there are already enough nest platforms in the area and some folk would say far toooo many extra platforms, especially for a population which is still in the early stages of forming a loose colony.

    I was going to crop this for easier ID but decided the "grass" was too nice to lose - and the heads were too often under water for an ideal view:

    MC. Be sure to look around 4.56pm. This time it isn't a Heron under the bridge!! LOL

    Do not know the area at all Ann, never been to visit so have no clue as to where the visitor centre is or where any platforms are already, it was just my guess. I understand that a platform would never be built near a centre due to all the human activity etc.

    Heather zoomed in on a certain portion of the bridge for quite a while but I couldn't see anything relevant there - I think she was quite confused at the time, too, and no wonder!

    I roughly chopped out seconds where the subject was behind the "piers" (don't know the right word).  This is all cropped to a closer view than the original.

    A small bird on the owl box - we hadn't looked at this box for a long time, IIRC:

    The Heron was under the bridge nearly all day, here was my last sighting:
