Weekly Chat, Sunday, December 5, 2010

Hi everyone: Have a nice Sunday. Don't forget to catch up on last few entries of previous week - AQ is havng a hard time sleeping coz of the heat!!

Daughter here for the night; catch up tomorrow.  :-)

  • Hi all! Thanks for all chat and pictures. I have been a bit knackered due hectic time at work so haven’t had time/energy to make a proper posting here, sorry. Also I always seem to be more tired in winter, must have something to do with the lack of daylight. Today sun came up at 9.20 and will set at 3.07pm and days are getting shorter still. I am sorry for those of you who are suffering ‘cause of the snow and cold temps ( of course the opposite conditions with AQ and Wattle), hope it will get better soon! Here it is -5C now, probably will be a bit cooler at the weekend. We also have more snow than usually at this time of winter, don’t know the exact figures but I suppose it must be somewhere between 30-100cm. EJ return clock says 106 days - yea, less than a week and the hundred day mark will be there!!! Do take care all!

  • Morning, All:   Very cold here again, today - & last night it rained at about 5.am, then immediately froze over, so the cars are like ice sculptures in the driveway, and the roads and paths are treacherous.

I've been very busy with various things, and no time to come on here much above reporting in - and you have all been sooo busy writing!  Just love the puppies, which I have seen mentioned above, and just glimpsed.

  • GARY   aren't they gorgeous, please can we have more.   Back for review on 21/12 but may to much to hope that the stookie comes off then!!!!! can get upstairs quicker now, thank goodness though that I have a well padded bottom Not impressed that I now hwve a cold....doom.

  • Good Morning to you ALL.  Cold frosty morning, but I do believe that the sun is trying to shine.

I must do some housework and possibly Christmas shopping. Christmas is getting nearer and still so much to do.

Gary, That last puppy is adorable. Don't forget to let us know the chosen names. Good to know that you are still snow free. It would be ironic that now you have your own snow plough, that you may not need to use it.

Annette, A white cat and piles of dirt to investigate, just doesn't sound ideal.

AQ, I hate to hear that homes have been damaged and flooded, and people evacuated. That certainly sounds like a horrific storm.

Auntie, Good to hear from you. Sorry you are having to work so hard. As you will know,  the lack of daylight hours does affect many people. It sound as if you have plenty of your own snow.

    Will look in again later.

  • Morning all .... I hope this is the day that the thaw starts ... this is day 16 and counting! :-((

Gary - gorgeous pics of the puppies ... and mum .... more please! Love the car names that have been suggested, but can't add to the list I'm afariad.

AQ - the storm sounds awful ... feel so sorry for people who are caught up in it.

No time for more individual replies ... full of busy today ... but thanks to everyone for chat etc

    Take care.

Just took a peek at the Derby peregrine camera and two birds are preening in the sunshine!

  • Morning all,

Thanks for all the chat and pics especially the puppies Gary although I cant add to the car names. Also thanks for the robin pic OG it is very seasonal.

Djoans : Thanks for the Derby peregrines screenshot. I have been checking the webcam from time to time but no luck. I have had more success with the Zurich peregrines.

We have a heatwave here today. The temp has risen to a balmy +2.5c. Now where did I put that sunscreen?

Sunny and bright and the ice is melting. What more could we want.

    Have a good Thursday.

  • We’re heading for a thaw!  Temp is rising on an interesting curve.  I nearly put that as “exponentially”, then realised what that would mean!  What I mean, if I’ve got my calculus correct, is that that there is a positive rate of change as well as positive change!  It was minus eight and rising at one degree per 40 mins, then one per 30, now one degree warmer after 20 mins – and we are at minus 1 – next time I look it should be zero!!!  I hope everyone else in wintry weather is also seeing an improvement.  Our birds seem to be sensing the change – much less frenetic today, although still “all present and correct”.

Lynette – pleased the ligament seems to be improving – any chance of an extra gentle and short swim to help it along?

Gary – we do have some “new road layout” signs – but I wonder if they really help – we often come to them on a road where they may have been relevant 2 or 3 years before and think they’ve reshaped a junction again since we were last there, but then find it is still as it was and they just haven’t taken down the signs!

Annette – glad to see you are pleased at speed of works so far – don’t slip on the mud, we don’t want you decorated in shades of black and purple!

AQ – sorry you had a little rain and farmers probably had too much – does rain deter the march of the Locusts?  Sounds like a really nasty storm, hope you get no more like it.

Auntie – sorry you have been so busy and tired – I guess the workload in your department increases in winter.  Take care.

Lindy – take care on the frozen rain.

Dibnlib – sorry you have caught the cold; keep wrapped up and have plenty of warm drinks.

Brenda – why is it that we always know when it is due, the date never changes, we start preps early, yet somehow Christmas appears too soon?  OH got wrap down from loft yesterday, so I shall hopefully be wrapping this afternoon – but only a few to do.

Joan – great to see the Derby Peregrines in the sunshine.

Alan – good morning – will you be walking the Thunderdog in shorts now it is so hot!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good morning DjoanS thanks for the capture from Derby Cathedral.  Bet they are appreciating the sun at long last.

Hope the thaw does start today, but didn't like the sound of the weather forecast for nest week.  Apparently it is going to get colder after a few days respite and snow again.  Lovely sunny day here but very frosty again last night.  Have only just managed to get the bird baths free of ice.  All the sparrows are sitting right at the top of the tree in my garden basking in a bit of warmth at long last.  Not going so mad for the food at present but I expect that will change as the day goes on.  Hope your day full of busy goes well.

  • Good morning BrendaH sun shining brightly and hopefully my garden will actually be frost free today eventually.  Still got frozen putting the bird food out and trying to defrost the bird baths.  Christmas is looming up fast now and although I have finsihed shopping for gifts, still have to finish writing Christmas cards, marzipan and ice Christmas cake and wrapping presents.    This constant cold weather makes me feel very lethargic but will have to do it soon.  Hope you have a successful shop today.

  • Good morning dibnlib will keep my fingers crossed that you will get the stookie off before Christmas.  Pleased your are managing the stairs better now.  Not so pleased to see you have a cold, life is treating you rather harshly at present.
