Morning/evening all: Off to catch up on today's posts.

  • Dibnlib: Yes a special place and for me it is a 2 min walk away. A friend from down south who has fished all over the world stood on the ballindalloch bridge in awe. I did not realise it was such a special place to fishers from everywhere all over the world and other places.

  • Hi all:  And welcome Eagle-eye!  Glad you clarified the business with the Ark Royal; per Gary's post, I was beginning to wonder too...  Somehow helicopters taking off from carriers doesn't inspire the same awe as watching those jets thunder off the end of the ship - or more impressive - watching them land. Amazing.

Wendy: Lovely spot that, what with all the snow; I can hear the scrunch under my boots!  Of course, it's easy to enjoy when you're sitting in the sun in Santa Barbara.  Oooh another lovely horse.

Margobird: Briliant!  What an adventure. June will come quick enough once Jan 1 rolls around.

Diane:  Sounds like you and Dad have some good company there - birds, deer, coyotes. Don't like freezing rain.  Stay safe and warm.  Re Dell computers, have been reading Consumer Reports and notice that they seem to have more repairs than other brands (though I've always bought them and had no trouble except with this pesky formerly-a-laptop.  It's always good to see you; I too find it very hard to keep up with the posts, which have been thick and fast these last few weeks; still lovely to hear from everyone.

BrendaH:  All I can say is that I sympathize with anyone who has to watch me go through a full-body scan!  On the radio the other day, someone used the term "security show," which seemed to strike a bell with many folks.  Still, an effort to garner support for a mass protest of scans in favor of  "enhanced pat downs" that would slow down boarding procedures and possibly flights seems not to have got off the ground, no pun intended.

George:  Enjoyed your rant - SNAFU  (assume everyone knows what that means).  Fab cat - just beautiful -reminds of Sammy, the cat we had when I was growing up.  He was named after an American serviceman (no idea of the backstory!)

Gary: Right about freezing - 32F - is about as cold as it gets by the coast. On the rare occasions we find ice anywhere it makes the headlines on the evening news.   Was that you on the horse in the photo? :-)  Looks painful.

ChrisyB: Please send brother and spray to my house; I like things shiny too. :-)

Daisy Ray: Great to see you but oh no!  Hope your daughter wasn't badly injured in the crash; doesn't sound like the car did too well, but as you say, you can replace a car.

    Take care all!

  • Annette, Brenda, Lindybird and Gary  Thanks for the welcome for my first post.

I have been following these bloggings for quite some time - and find it all very interesting.  I had left it to my OH (and better half - with this sort of thing) to post, but couldn't resist answering a 'boys' toys' question.

I do do a little bird watching and sometimes take a few photos.  You may have seen the odd one posted by OH in the past.

I shall continue to watch in, and may feel bold enough to contribute again sometime.

Good luck to all in the snow affected areas of our (as usual) unprepared country.  Where I am, we are cold but no precipitation yet.

Annette:  Thanks for your concern.  No, daughter 1 was not injured physically, thank goodness.  Mentally, though it's an emotional whirlwind sorting out with police, insurance company and everything else, including work and the fact that the car is essential for her work.  The car was damaged down one side apparently.  OH and I haven't seen either the car or our daughter; the phone has kept us in touch.  She has good friends and workmates who have really helped keep her together during this difficult time.  As I said in my last post [no pun intended there], we are very proud of her and how she has had good presence of mind and good sense throughout.  She is even listening to us - I mean, REALLY listening to us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you say, you can replace a car.  Our family wasn't so lucky with my 11 year old cousin in 1965 when he and two of his friends were killed by a driver.  Early November is hard for me until 11th and 12th have passed.

  • No snow, in fact very dry with less wind so felt less cold than yesterday – and loads of sun.  I see it’s getting late and I haven’t made any replies since six pages past, so will have to say a general “Hello” to anyone who knows me!  I do have a few things that I can’t miss out.

AQ – I hope your kerb and gutter crew are more efficient than our traffic calming guys!  Traffic lights and most barriers went this morning, but there are still finishing jobs to be done – like finishing electrics and some white paint here and there.  We and opposite each got a red cross on the pavement Tuesday.  Ours was dug out and partly  filled in while we went out so we don’t know what it has under it but it’s wearing a traffic cone;  the one opposite has not been touched!  Also been watching the traffic avoid the wee roundabout whenever possible!

Lindybird – I wouldn’t think you had any problem fitting in the posh part with the hat and shades like that

Margo – pleased you had good news about next June from LG this morning!

Osprey – lovely pic of your youngest – and all that snow!

Alan – great Collared Dove pic – we have three these days – causes some argument!

Eagle-eye – fancy seeing you here!  Isn’t that one of my Swans?  Yes, folks, this was my OH popping in! …later – I see you’ve been on again – I thought you were quiet!!

Wendy – great pics from the Spey (near the Ballindalloch Bridge, I assume?)  Son walked one and a half hours today with friend and friend’s two dogs and another friend’s one dog in the woods at Grantown – made him feel much better – he’d also been to see Doc who was pleased that his meds seem to be helping him.  Lovely Pony – and Daughter too!

Diane – good to see you able to post several times today, and you are so good at mentioning so many individuals when you catch up, a lovely friend to have.  I hope your being able to come here more means your Dad may be a little better – or perhaps he was just taking a nap – either way, I’m still thinking of you both.  I was tired yesterday, fitting in so much, but slept well and have been fine today.

George – sorry you have had trouble with the site – we all had difficulties for a day or two, but then it seemed to improve again.  What a lovely Cat your Son has – such a meaningful expression, and beautiful eyes.

Chrisy – good to “see” you again – don’t stay away too long!  Having had ceramic hobs, I would never want to go back to anything else.

Daisy Ray – good to see you here!  I hope you daughter didn’t suffer any injuries in the crash … – just seen your next post – sounds a very sensible young lady, and I am sure she is glad of your support at this time.  So sorry that you have such sad memories each November.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Daisy Ray: Re Waxwings in Leicester - there have been at least 2 sightings in Leicester, both around the Hinckley Road area a couple of weeks ago. There have been recent sightings in Melton, Rutland Water, Wigston, Wanlip, Narborough, Albert Village, Glenfield and two reports today from Loughborough and Groby.

  • Thanks, Sandy.  I'll keep an extra special lookout now I know they might not be too far away.

  • Wendy, maybe he could see red and liked music! lolol I don't blame you being "loud" when he got through the water. I know what a big step that can be.

Diane, thanks for the link to the printer. Looks good and may be cheap come "Black Friday":) You take care and stay dryish

ChrisyB, well done you. I keep my feet firmly on the ground, it's my OH that does all the riding.

DaisyRay, great to see you and don't apologise. I seem to come and go all the time! LOL It's such a nice group . Sorry about the hit and run with your daughter but glad she is safe. So sorry to read about your cousin.

Annette, that was Alison riding. Or holding on grimly more like it!

Eagle eye, great to have you "on board". Is it rude to ask who you are the OH of on here?? Edit, I've just seen:)))) Welcome.

OG, thanks for the roadwork update. Be finished by christmas!

  • Daisy Ray: Isn't it kinda mindblowing when our kids really listen to us?  A case of 'the older they get, the smarter we get.'  :-)

  • Alan wrote:-Happy Thanksgiving to Annette, Gary, Barbara Jean, Caerann.

I too want to add Happy Thanksgiving to you all in the States.

Hi all, gone onto bold for some reason, what a lot of news again.   Alan loved the pic of the collared dove.

Bird of prey on the nest sight - not sure but it looked like the back of a hawk of some sort.

Lindybird - photo of you, very impressive nice to put face to post.

Christmas is always a little busier for the choir - will have a hoarse voice by the time its finished.

    Welcome to Eagle-eye from me.
