  • Good morniong Lynette glad you enjoyed catching up with an old friend.  I have been watching the sixties programme on and off and it does bring some memories, especially the clothes.  You are right in saying that Austria is a beautiful country, went these myself about 40 years ago but was so impreseed by the cleanliness and nice friendly people and of course the fantastic views of moutains.

Hope the weather holds out and the dog agility League goes well.

  • Good morning Alan and yes a very distressing picture of the osprey that had been shot in Sussex.  Brought tears to my eyes to see such a beautiful bird dead.  However are we going to stop this needless slaughter.  Wish they could catch the people responsible and give them a deserving sentence but as we all know these people are hard to catch.

  • Good morning original goldfinch so pleased you enjoyed the talk on the White Tailed Eagles they really are magnificent birds.

I smiled when I read about the workman, digging up parts tthat have already been filled.  We have a road near us which has been dug up so many times and then filled in only to be dug up again at a later date.  Constant temporary traffic lights which cause havoc in the rush hour.

I think we all safe packaging etc for things we no longer have, OH is going up in the loft Sunday to do some sorting out and no doubt there will be lots that can be disposed of.

Good morning to all I have not mentioned.  Had a quick look in yesterday before I went to hairdressers.  Didnt get back until late afternoon as I decided to have a look round to get some ideas for OH.  Think I have it sorted now.  He loves books and have seen several he will like I am sure.  I am going to get him and Ipod for Christmas together with some speakers.  It is his birthday a week Saturday and as a birhtday treat we are going to see "Legally Blonde" at the Savoy in London. Hoping the weather will be better than it was for our visit last weekend.

Talking about the weather it has been an absolute socker at times this week.  So much heavy rain and lawns now like swamps, hard to believe how dry they were in the summer.  Had a couple of heavy showers already this morning but heavy rain forecast for tpnight yet again.  It is much colder today so many layers of clothes on for me while I clean up after my birds.  Poor little Billy Whizz has had some wet and some very cold  nights but he is looking OK.  Still can't get anywhere near him though.  I have never seen a cat run so fast as he does when either of us appear.

Fairly quiet weekend coming up.  Will be making just one Christmas Cake and then sorting out the loft to see how many rolls of Christmas wrapping, bows and tags we have stockpiled over the last few years.  All down to me as I just kept buying all this without checking what we have.  Getting my list for the Christmas shop expedition with my sister on Tuesday.  My sister is bringing Rhys to see me on Monday and she has told me to move things as he is into everything now he can crawl and nearly walk.  Looking forward to it. When his Mum goes back to work after Christmas my sister will be having him every Monday so I will probably get to see him a bit more.

Have a good day all and take care.

  • Just read she was due to arrive at 3pm so that was a bit early.

  • I just noticed a parakeet on one of the feeders, for the third time in the past week. It flew off when I went to the window, but I got some photos, from a distance. I shall put up the best later on, if they are any good. Last year I had one sitting in the Robinia tree above my head, for all of two seconds, so this is an improvement. I intend to put out more feeders this winter, as the varieties of birds is increasing over time. Recently I have had a green and a great spotted woodpecker, a jay and assorted finches, but the most numerous, the greenfinches have been gone now for months, leaving the goldfinches as the most numerous. I am on the edge of town, in a leafy area about 200 yards from the start of the green belt.

There used to be a few thousand parakeets a few miles away, living at the grounds of Esher Rugby Club, in the willow trees. But the club had to take all the trees down as there had been a number of accidents, due to the trees falling. Whether it had anything to do with the birds, weakening the trees or not, I am not sure, but anyway they all had to find new homes, so they must have dispersed, throughout north Surrey. Usually they are seen flying overhead and they are heard first of all, as they can be a bit noisy.
