Evening/Morning all: Off to check out recent posts.

  • Annette: You mentioned the other day that you didn't have a good picture to use as your avatar (not a signature, but an avatar like my owl/moon pic). I was waiting for a phone call this afternoon, so I found and resized some pics that I thought might be appropriate for you (they don't have copyright issues). They are all the right size for use here. I honestly don't care whether you use them or not; I was just sitting by the phone and needed something to occupy my mind and hands. Here they are (none of them are animated).

To use one of these, just go to your personal page on thise site, click "Edit Profile" and then click "Change Avatar." :-)

EDIT: Actually, I think you said that you hadn't yet looked for a good photo, not that you didn't have one. Don't feel that you have to use one of these. :-)

  • Diane  Those are absolutely excellent. I think the first one may be the best for Annette but the second one is just so lovely.

  • Linda I was amazed and aghast when I heard that Kate was wearing Diana's engagement ring. My first thought was 'how awful! I wonder whose idea that was?' Am I alone in this way of thinking?

  • Evening all: Really busy day here what with one thing and several others.  Going to topple into bed any minute now.

Diane: How sweet!!  Let me consider the options - they're all attractive.  I'm torn.  Stay tuned!

SheilaFE: Saw my daughter this morning and she was all excited at the prospect of watching the royal wedding - go figure! She was born in the UK but we moved here when she was three. A bit mysterious since I'm not a "royal" watcher (though I may watch too if it's not in the middle of our night).  I too was wondering what kind of ceremony they'll have given the economy.  The engagement made all the news channels here today, with lots more to come I suspect.  So glad your Tea Parties are the traditional type!  Awful news about the Swedish osprey.

Margobird: Another day on toilet watch. That's no fun. Wonder where Billy Whizz will hang out when it gets really cold there. Maybe you and OH could organize a shelter with a heating pad or something  :-)

dibnlib: Have never heard the "crumpled meringue" analogy - had to smile I'm afraid; so descriptive.

GeorgeG: Welcome back.  Sounds like a good time to celebrate those birthdays - happy birthday to all! But what a shame about missing dibnlib.

patriciat: The red squirrel sighting sounds like my kind of excitement. Hope it makes many return visits.

OK. I'm heading for the sack; night all. Do hope the weather improves for everyone. Take care!

  • Annette - I should think you are spoilt for choice as to what to use as your Avatar, but as someone else has remarked, the first 2 are what we would most associate with you.  We stay tuned!!

ChloeB - I think perhaps you may well be in a minority here with your thoughts about the use of the late Diana's engagement ring.  As Prince Willam is her eldest son, I think he has more right to use it than anyone else.  Also there is a tradition in the Royal Family to pass down jewellery, so why not re-use it?  It was a nice touch for her son to say it felt his mother was a part of the occasion.  Nowadays the byword seems to be recycle where possible!

  • Forgot to say that I really like all the animated signatures - I do have a favourite, but will keep my peace on that one!!

  • Thanks, Tiger. I was just having fun. Actually, Chloe is the truly brilliant one on this thread. I've never tried making animations, etc.

  • About the ring and what William said about his mother - I thought it was rather ghoulish!

I was also not happy when I discovered that Grandson#1's future MiL had produced her late mother's ring for him to give to his fiance when he asked her parents' permission (at least he did it before proposing, unlike William!).  The reason given was "It would have been hers, anyway" - but to me it sounded like entrapment - or she was making sure her daughter gets to keep it if they part!!!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • ChloeB I entirely agree with you. Seems a strange idea.  My wedding ring belonged to an aunt by marriage of my mother, who was like an extra grandmother to me but Kate can't have known Diana.

  • Morning, Everyone.   Cold & grey here, but not raining -- yet.    I'm off to the cinema this afternoon so will give report on what we thought of the film, later.  Meanwhile, Husband is rattling around the house as has nothing specific to do today - I'll soon fix that with a list of things which need tidying up before we start to think of putting up the Ch***mas decs (ohh! can't believe I said that, is it that time of year again, already??)

Not had any calls at all inquiring about our old piece of furniture, so looks like a trip to the tip with it - seems a shame as I would have liked to recycle it.  It's quite large so possibly too big for one of the charity vans to collect, for the inner city organisations.

Loved all of Dianes suggestions for Annettes avatar.
