Evening all: Off to check previous week's posts.

  • Good Morning All,

Dark and dismal here but the rain hasn't arrived yet.

It  really is so quiet on here and I haven't got any exciting news to tell you either. We went to the coffee afternoon session for MacMillan Cancer Charity. We managed to win the two quizzes and we were told that we could donate next time but were banned from the quizzes. It was a fun couple of hours and for a very good cause. We came home with various jams/ jellies made by local people.

Patriciat, I can feel your pain. If we don't hear from you before you leave, do have a great time in Scotland. My worst car injury was when I left my thumb inside the car door as it slammed shut.

Annette, Your story about your husband reminded me of my Mother, who always sliced her apples/ pears on a plate. I was glad to see your temperatures are cooling, but I hate it when it turns humid. I always find it more energy sapping than the hot sunshine.

OG, We don't see Red Kites here, although they are now spreading to the South. I was reading on the RSPB other forums that the Welsh birds have now been proved to have all stemmed from just one female, although there were other females around.

Heather, I don't think it will be too long before you will be wearing your favourite long coat unless Autumn eventually becomes warmer and drier.

  • Sorry I have not caught up with the thread but I thought you might like this little gem. See http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap100929.html

I notice it was taken in Australia in South East Queensland.

  • Good morning original goldfinch  from a very wet and miserable Poole.  Heard some more bad news about OH's friend yesterday.  They have had to stop his chemotherapy treatment for now as he is so week.  I hope he does not suffer for too long.  Instead of Christmas presents to OH's brother and wife we make a good donation to Cancer Research each year and they do the same.  As you say it is so important and they are making progress all the time and hopefully one day there will be a cure for this dreadful disease that takes so many lives away.  I think it is the case where most people ask for donations to be given on their death.  Apart from family flowers for both my Mum and Dad people very kindly donated a good sum to various charities.

Sad story about the rabbit.  It is awful to look after pets for someone and then they pass away.

    Have a good day.

  • Good morning Annette  pleased to read it has cooled down a bit for you.  Must be so tiring for you when it is that hot.

I think we all have little happenings with our heads.  My favourite is bringing the garage door down when I have not stepped right outside.  I have done that quite a few times but still carry on forgetting to stand the other side of the door.

    Take care.

  • Good morning patriciat and "ouch" I bet that gave you a bit of a shock.  Four stitches too, will they have to stop in while you are away.

Hope the ferry crossing is calm for you and the high winds promised for the weekend do not arrive early.  Wish you a good time anyway.

  • That's odd - last night when I wanted to post I was told I was excluded - that wasn't the word used, but I can't remember what it was - so I got in through my page.  This time, I was asked to sign in with my email and password - luckily I could remember it!  Maybe others are having trouble accessing the thread and that's why they aren't here!

Brenda - well done with the Macmillan quizes!  My OH has a whole collection of marmalades from various charity coffee mornings!  I am more likely to have chutneys, and they get used faster!

    Tiger - good morning!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good morning HeatherB and it was indeed harrowing for my OH.  He had more bad news from him yesterday.  They have had to stop the chemotherapy for now as he is so weak.  Not looking too good at all.  OH is hoping to visit again soon.

Talking about winter I have already graduated to wearing long socks under my trousers to keep my feet warm.  I have bad circulation and dread the winter when I feel cold most of the time.  The only time I really warm up is when I go to bed and snuggle up under the duvet.

It is very wet this morning but looking at the LOtL cams it looks even worse there so I am guessing you are getting the same.

On the topic of books when I worked we used to have a mini library in the office but since I retired I tend to keep everything as does OH.  Book shelves groaning under the weight as well as the loft.

  • Sorry, Margo, hadn’t seen your posts.  Sorry about your OH’s friend’s treatment – but chemo can be so aggressive that it becomes unbearable in itself.  I’m sure they will one day find a marker to be able to target it where required rather than attack the whole system.

I find socks cut off my circulation, and am still paddling about in bare feet!  But I have to confess to hot water bottle in bed last night!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good morning Brenda H  it is quiet after the excitement of our osprey season.  We already have the promised rain but I went out in the garden to make sure the birds have enough to eat and it really brightened the day to hear the numerous sparrows buried in the heart of a big tree at the top of our garden singing their heads off.  Could also hear robins as well, they seem to accept whatever the weather throws at them.  I will probably get a bit wet during the day as I will be in and out topping up their food trays.  No doubt if it does stop the sparrows will come and have their daily bath.

Well done for winning two quizzes.  A very good cause and when i was working the whole office ( I worked for a large firm of solicitors) would bake cakes and make jam to raise funds.

    Have a good day.

  • Meant to post the following link to a spotted eagle owl cam.  She has a nest in a large flowerpot and apparently has done this for three years.  Think there are owlets too.  What an unusual nesting site.
