Hi thanks for your concerns the sharp pains have gone but at the moment i have a dull like pain  the only way to describe it is the after effects off been punched with breathlessness casper is doing ok ear doesn't seem to be filling up at the moment which is good news by this time last week it had filled back up quite a bit

Alicat,  You perhaps should get this checked out. Have you ever had anything like it before?

  • Joan, I think I’ll make leek and potato soup for lunch today, yours smells great!  Love the jays.

Alicat, I hope Casper is now fully perked up, and you too.  Do go to the doc!

Diane, don’t I remember that you intended to sort the house starting at the top last winter???  Please don’t heave very heavy things around too much.  Thanks for Pete’s Pond info, I enjoyed that last year.  Afke has her own interesting blog now (hope that name is right).  Watch out for those Kingbirds!  We do spend quite a lot of time looking out of the office window at boats coming in, but it’s not a very large dock so nothing massive.  http://www.abports.co.uk/news2003345.htm

Lindy, when I got married we moved to Wing and a couple of years later to Mentmore, not so far from Totternhoe.  They were just selling off houses from the Rosebery estate in dire need of attention, but even so we were pushing ourselves to afford £13,500!

Cirrus, glad to see you got to Dodd Wood and dad was still there.  I haven’t been since the juves left.

Thanks for Vane Farm area pics, George g, it looks beautiful.

Annette, nearly right, there is a lion carved in the chalk at Dunstable Downs.  Sometimes he merges with the grass, then he is weeded.  (Ha, OG beat me to it while composing this.)

AQ and anyone else, you’re all welcome to come for gingerbread (but I might have to ask OG to make some too, as it’s her recipe and she’s the nearest).  Did you take a pic of the wood ducks? Enjoy your trip.

OG, have you mentioned you kept fish before? What kind?  My dad used to keep tropical fish.  I googled those fish Annette mentioned the other day and they were cichlids, which my dad had.  I have seen my first flock of geese flying over on my way to work this week, watch out for an erratically driven Panda with a mad woman hanging out of the window looking at the sky!

Heather, we don’t have a large family so no large gatherings to cater for.  In fact, we always had to alternate between parents for Christmas so I never even cooked a Christmas dinner until about 15 years ago, after my dad died.  That’s a bit scary, leaving it so late, you’re supposed to be an expert after 20 years of marriage.  I’m sure you’ll do great!

Alan, Happy Anniversary! (We had ours last weekend, but don’t think about it really.)  Hope you get a weekend away later.

I see OG has sneaked on while I was sorting out my reply, so now I know re fish.

yes heather but didn't do anything about it then it just went away

  • Hi Alicat.  Don't want to cause alarm but I also think you should get this checked out. It could well be due to something simple ie acid reflux but in any case of chest pain you really should err on the safe side and rule out other causes.

Alicat - Nobody has a more carefree attitude to health than I do, regarding my own health, but if I had breathlessness and pain, I would always see a medic. Could be any one of a number of things, quite simply treated. (Emotional blackmail follows - if you don't look after yourself, who's going to look after Casper:-))   )

  • Afternoon all ... just wrote a long post with individual replies..... and lost the whole *$£"%* thing   :-(((((

So .... thanks to ALL for chat, pics, funnies, links etc  :-))

Lovely sunny afternoon here after heavy overnight rain. We were going to do tidying in the garden today, but everything is very wet, so we will leave it for another day!               The leek and potato soup was finished at lunchtime today  :-(    BUT  there is another leek coming this week!   Our neighbour grows them to show at the local Leek Show and the neighbours get the ones that don't make the grade :-)

Alicat - I will add my voice to those who say you should get checked over ... might be nothing, but better to be safe. Glad to hear that Casper is improving and that it hasn't started to fill up again!

    Take care

  • Hi, just looking in.

Diane do hope the renovations go alright and that you can settle your things in along with your parents things. Do hope they are a lot better than they were.

Sunny afternoon here, with clouds and a breeze. How long the rain will be, anybody's guess!!!

George G. - Looking at the distance from where we are staying in Innerleithen, it is not that far to Vane Farm so will probably have a day out there. From your photos and looking at Google Earth it looks a lovely, peaceful place. Anyway looking forward to visiting it at the end of September.

Just awaiting ASDA to deliver shopping, saves going to the supermarket. Then its putting it all away!!!!

Just watching scenes at LOTL and Abernethy, at present just the chaffinches and tits feeding. This is the scene at LOTL - cloudy and windy

  • I'm just popping in, between things.... I'm hoping that Alicat's pain and breathlessness is just stress related, after all, she has had a worrying time with Casper. and I have had similar in the past.

    Great pic of LotL, Lynette.

Hope you enjoy your meal out, and Happy Anniversary, Alan & Lady P!     F. A. B.

Hi, Terry! Yup, I've started the project in earnest at least a couple of times, but then my Dad's health takes a downturn and all of my goals and good intentions get derailed. Dang it. :-( Last year he contracted H1N1. I'm really hoping I can make some serious progress this fall. I'm being careful with the heavy lifting, though. Thanks to all who expressed concern. You're all such nice folks. Treat yourselves to a vanilla latte and a slice of carrot cake!

Oh, by the way, OG, when I was in the supermarket the other day, I was in the ice cream section getting my Dad some french vanilla gelato (his favorite). I noticed some cartons of Carrot Cake Ice Cream! Didn't buy any, but wonder how it would taste?

  • Carrot Cake Ice Cream?? !!!!  Count me in!!!
