Weekly Chat, Sunday August 29, 2010

Hallo everyone. Just started this but now off to actually read recent posts!

  • Friday morning all. And thanks all the chat etc. Autumn has definitely arrived here, rain, wind and temp merely 8C. Last Tuesday went to see Chicago (musical) it was very good entertainment, very talented performers.

SueC, thanks for your reply according ringing in Lotl :)

Margobird, hope you will be well enough to take that trip to Cornwall

Gary, nice to see you again. How is Clover? Has s/he become a companion horse?

Diane, that creature in your pic looks like this Stinky to me LOL

It is one of the characters in Moomin's by Tove Jansson. I think Annette read one of her more serious books in her book-club? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moomin

Have nice day everyone! Must go to work now

  • Love the Stinky ,  auntie!

  • Morning all.  Lots to read and no time to reply individually at the moment - I'll try OG's hint about opening a Word document later.  I've just resisted the temptation to add an exclamation mark or to put this comment in bracket.

Hear the sad news this morning that the 6 year old boy injured by the speedboat died yesterday.  I can't begin to imagine the pain and distress of his family and friends.

  • Morning all.  Just had to share a wonderful sight this morning which started with early mist.  This has now burned off revealing a brilliant blue sky, although sadly I do see large white clouds coming in at a height.  Sitting in the kitchen enjoying my breakfast (oh yes, Heron, it was an egg) and with views to the SW/W I have been entertained for over an hour by a large number of swallows and house martins screaming and flying around the garden.  We often see swallows, but rarely house martins, although they do nest in the village which over 1.5 miles away.  A few years ago we hoped to encourage swallows to nest in our woodhole by putting up an artificial nest.  Our two neighbours have large barns and both have regular nesting, so we thought it wouldn't out of the question that they might take up residence too.  But no.  Our vacant possession signs were ignored.  However, a pair of swallows decided the venue was right, but shunned our prefabricated home!  They built their own nest to the side of it, and raised their young quite happily.  Unfortunately although they have looked in over the past three years, they have not returned to nest.  I saw a buzzard yesterday.  I was reading in the garden and heard it calling, so dashed for the binos!  Lovely sight.  Must do some more gardening.  Happy Friday to you all.

  • Linda & TerryM - With more time to browse I found my way to the poetry page. Delightful verses. Thank you.

Margobird - What a shame to fall sick just before your holiday. I guess I’m too late to wish you a great time but thinking of you anyway.

Gary - Dau#2 sometimes calls her feline a guard cat. Which is a joke because he is only brave when there is a pane of glass between him and those feathered things outside!!

Shopping this week. Memo to self. Do not go after mid morning on Thursdays as the supermarket is full of OAPs wandering seemingly aimlessly. Yes, I’m an OAP but I don’t wander aimlessly.

OG & Heather & Linda & Patriciat & other folks - I thought exclamation marks were obligatory on this thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Lynette - Your tapestry may yet be finished. As may the cushion cover I discovered half-embroidered in a drawer recently. I dare not think how many years since I last touched it.

Our lawn was mowed yesterday. I thought I would have to send out a search party to find the man but he surfaced. LOL

    Auntie - Love Stinky.

Today was the start of the Royal Adelaide Show (horticulture, agriculture, fashion, sideshow alley, show bags & all that stuff) and what a miserable day it was. Rain & wind, thunder & lightning. We had 1 inch of rain in 6 hours. I was at the archives but when I heard it was going to get worse, I headed for home at 1 pm. Four blocks back to the bus stop in pouring rain, few verandahs, & the footpaths were awash with running water. I dripped on to the bus soaked through. I drive partway to get a better bus service. When I got off the bus I had to wade through water 6 ins deep across the footpath up the street & across the road to where I had left my car. I took my shoes off but was too stupid to roll up my trousers. Tonight I am home alone as Himself has been invited to fsil’s "boys night". Two more weeks. Well I had better shut down before we have a power failure and I lose all this waffle. Good night.

  • Morning all, just watching the birds at the feeder at Abernethy - bit of compensation watching now the ops have gone.

Hi to all, Annette in SoCal, Patriciat, Shiela FE, Brenda, Lindybird, Auntie and Stinky (love), Aquilareen and Gary and anyone else I've  forgotten.

Lovely day again here after a misty start.  Doing absolutely nothing much today except I must go and get on with my tapestry - no excuse not to finish it now.

Back later to see what you've all been getting up to.

  • Just looked at the Hurricane situation again and it has been downgraded to a 2 and is heading East off the coast, so although wind and rain may fall on land it looks like in the main it will miss landfall.?

At least our friends in America can rest easy a litle.

  • morning all:)

I'll catch up later in the day when I'm more awake but , as Lynette says, the hurricane is staying a little further off the coast so that's good news. Still, N Carolina is still being hit with 100mph winds and waves! But it could be worse. This the storm is then due to come close to Cape Cod tonight, brushing CT (where I am) on it's way through. We are expecting some winds and rain nothing bad. So, all in all, no where near as bad as it could be.

Will be interested to find out tomorrow how our 80 year old friend who lives out there on the Cape got on!

    Happy Friday everyone.

  • Good afternoon all and thanks for all your good wishes.  Wish I could say I feel a bit better but still feel pretty lousy.  It is a beautiful day here and I just wish I felt as good as the weather is.  OH has decided I am not well enough to travel on Saturday so fingers crossed we will going on Sunday.  Cough is a lot looser but sinuses painfull, constant headache and cheeks feel really sure.  As I am now on the third day of antibiotics things should start improving soon.  Can't sleep at night because as soon as I lay down I start coughing.  Not sure how OH does it but he doesn't  me coughing fortunately.  I did manage the last bit of ironing this morning but that was enough so I will pack tomorrow.  A bit of a miserable post and sorry for that but at least I got some smiles from things that have been posted. Good to hear the Hurricane has been downgraded so hopefully our US friends will escape the worst.

Don't know if I will log in anymore before we go away but in case not all take care of yourselves and I will post when I come back in a fortnight's time.

    Margobird

  • Good afternoon patriciat so sorry to read about the 6 year old boy.  How tragic and so young, don't think any of us can imagine the pain and sorry the family are going through.
