Daily Update (LG Nest) Tuesday 24th August

  • Intruder around.

If nothing goes right, go left! :-)

  • Chick on the rhs has just had a quick fly-about and returned to a sunny nest.  And a fly crawls down the lens.

Edit:  sorry, forgot the photo.  I now think that Quackers is home alone - no sooner said than she goes!

  • Lovely pics Sheila good to see the sun shining now.  Nest empty now I would like to think they have made a decision to go fishing.

  • Chin up, all those who are finding this too upsetting....  think of it as how you feel when you see a baby learning to walk - they fall down a bit to start with,  and you just brush them down & say 'off you go!" before setting them off again on their path...

These two GEM's will be fine - they have such good genes, after all.   And they have been very well fed - perhaps too well fed!  Perhaps even a little bit spoilt!

  • Lindybird your post is just what is needed for us who find it all a bit difficult.  Yours is the voice of reason.

You are right they couldn't have had a better start in life with the wonderful parents they had.  I half hoped when they left the nest that perhaps they were going to fish but they are both back again now.

margobird, they seem to see it as their absolute duty to guard the nest whereas we think they ought to be fishing!!!

  • Glad you didn't take it the wrong way, margobird - I am as soft as anyone, but we do have to be strong with these facts of Nature.  It has been such a successful season,  & I'm sure that EJ and Odin have flown off well satisfied that they have done a good job with raising these healthy youngsters.

  • Have just logged on again after being out most of the day only to find two juves calling for food. Fat chance.

Come on you two, you have to go and fish for yourselves. They obviously haven't got the message yet.

  • Hi Lynette, I've just got in as well - I see the penny has yet to drop!

  • Well, its taken me a few minutes but have caught up now with all the updates.   Thanks for those and for the brilliant captures. They are keeping us on our toes still.

Slightly off kilter, thanks for your good wishes, 42 years, a long time.

Cirrus, that photo I posted at the beginning for the 15th struck me as being the eldest because of its stance and more upright body - but of course I could be mistaken.

They are still shrieking away and have had to turn the sound right down.
