The three juveniles are thriving under Mrs G and Aran's continued care, proving once again what formidable parents they are. Long may the season continue to be be hassle-free as it nears the time for migration
I forgot to post the rest of Aran's day yesterday:
10 September
I'm off now, SYAL :)
IMAGICAT
11 September ~ Aran in the afternoon pestered by corvids. This was the last sighting of Aran that I got, but Heather might have found him later, I thought I saw something on Chat yesterday but can't access it now.
I had to do 2 of these because one shows the wind but the other shows the cows better ;)
It nipped in from the left edge and instantly (almost) out again - if it hadn't caught my eye live I'd never have seen it scrolling thru.
Birdies LG DU update.
What fantastic videos of the last days of Aran here at Glaslyn. Very many thanks Scylla for rounding off the season.
Gosh, Mike, he is almost over-staying his welcome! I bet he goes today, with clearing skies and a warm spell about to return, with south westerlies keeping him inland.
Scylla - Jimmy was Blue CU2(12)m who Emyr named (CU) Jimmy. He hatched in Dumfries & Galloway, at Carsphairn. 2014 he intruded at Dyfi.
In 2015 Jimmy intruded at Glaslyn, and bonded and mated with Mrs G after Orange 11(98)m - Mr G! - failed to return from migration. Sadly he was ousted by Blue 80(12)m (Mrs G's grandson!) who nestorised, but he didn't stay. Life at Glaslyn became complicated after that. Mrs G laid eggs but failed to incubate.
As for Jimmy, he found another nest and a female on Hiraeth Moor, not to far from Llyn Brenig. On 11 May he was electrocuted on a power pole near Pentrefoelas at an abandoned cottage. His wings touched the high voltage cables. Thus Operation Jimmy was born. Gail Edgeley, a volunteer at Glaslyn, contacted Scottish Power and persuaded them to make overhead lines safer for large birds such as osprey and buzzards and all poles (?) which are subsequently erected have these safeguards to prevent it happening again. "It involves moving the wires further apart, fitting rings on the lines to deter birds and making it harder for them to perch on transformer boxes which supply homes."
They also arranged for, I think it was three, platforms to be erected under the guidance of Darren Moore, who has erected many platforms in Wales and I think also rings osprey.

Thank you, SHEILA, for the sad story of Jimmy
It's still early for Aran to leave, according to his Glaslyn history. So I shan't panic about not having done a "summary video" yet, due to domestic tech stress all blooming day. Here's his first fly-off, I'm going to have a nap.
