August is the month when we've seen the Loch Arkaig ospreys depart on their journey south. We've enjoyed watching them this year - the wonderful parenting skills of Aila and Louis, and the antics of their 3 chicks, Captain, Vera and Doddie.
Mary GK did an absolutely wonderful video summarising the 2020 season. Thank you so much Mary! And here is Geemeff's great compilation, thank you!
2020 last dates:
Doddie JJ6 was last seen at the nest on Saturday 15th August 2020
Aila was last seen on Saturday 22nd August 2020
Captain JJ7 was last seen on Sunday 23rd August 2020
Vera JJ8 was last seen on Saturday 5 September.
An unidentified osprey was seen off camera on Sunday 6 September eating a fish. This could well have been Louis, having arrived and found no Vera around to feed.
Doddie JJ6 was videod and photographed fishing for over a fortnight at Avalon Marshes in Somerset

Sorry for the poor snaps - could this have been a Whitethroat (visited this evening)?
Morning Scylla! I'm rubbish with bird ID but Liz B has identified it as a Flycatcher. And your snaps aren't bad - the light was very poor 20.42 - 20.53 last night
JJ8/Vera was showing off her lovely necklace last night.

OMG PINE MARTEN on the nest!

Possibly the strong winds on 25 August have brought down a branch they can use as in 2018. Although we don't want them on the nest (now is as good a time as any), they are marvellous creatures in their own right. I wonder if their scent will encourage JJ8 to get on her bike!! Ian
There's an Osprey on Pole Tree now, been there since 12.10, but no one's come to the nest today. Wonder if that's Louis looking out for JJ8? I was thrilled to see the Pine Marten but also very happy it only came now. Beautiful creatures. Yes, I think the combination of rain and Pine Martens will get her going - I felt like Louis was stocking her up yesterday with those six fish, readying her for the long journey. Ironic that it might be the fish she dropped over the edge last night which attracted the Marten!

Geemeff - "There's an Osprey on Pole Tree now, been there since 12.10, but no one's come to the nest today. Wonder if that's Louis looking out for JJ8?" In past years Louis' favourite perch was the stick tree (although I can only recall one instance of him using it this year) rather than the pole tree. I am only aware of JJ0 using the pole tree as a perch. JJ8 has also used the stick tree as a perch. I suppose it could be Louis or possibly JJ8 waiting for Louis to appear with a fish or maybe another osprey altogether. Ian
Whoever it is on the Pole tree it is still there @ 2 pm.... if it is JJ8-Vera she will be feeling sorry for herself as I think we know she is not a lover of the rain
It was JJ8 on the pole tree, 14.16.37 she flew to the nest. Ian
EDIT - the camera sound & vision is out of synch.
Got to laugh at her Ian it is like she is announcing her arrival on the nest.
